Chief suspect Robert Mikelsons has now confessed to 84 cases of child sex abuse in the Amsterdam day care scandal, the Dutch authorities report. All the parents involved have been informed…At the end of last year Amsterdam city council stated that 64 children had been abused by Mikelsons.
Detectives are currently searching Mikelsons’ computers for pictures of children mentioned in his statements. The first matches were found last week, according to the public prosecutor’s office. No information was given as to the number of children featured in the photographs or the seriousness of the abuse.

AURORA | Prosecutors filed a first-degree murder charge Tuesday against Theodore Madrid in connection with the death of 2-year-old Caden Rodgers last week. Madrid, 30, was originally charged with felony child abuse after police found Rodgers seriously injured Wednesday at the Aurora apartment Madrid shared with Rodgers’ mother.

Attorneys assisting a national children’s rights organization say they are investigating whether officials with the state Department of Human Services are endangering Oklahoma children by cutting back on child abuse investigations to make the state’s child welfare statistics look better. “We’re concerned that instead of fixing the underlying problems in the system, DHS may be manipulating numbers and dangerously restricting the number of children coming into state custody,” said Tulsa attorney Paul DeMuro. DeMuro is one of the Oklahoma lawyers who have joined New York-based Children’s Rights in suing DHS officials in a class-action federal court lawsuit over the treatment of children in state custody.

MERCER COUNTY, OH – A Mercer County father was arrested Friday for abusing his 3-year-old daughter after she was found suffering from a head injury that had led to internal bleeding along with bruising and blisters on her lower body and extremities. According to the Celina Police Department, the girl was taken to Mercer Health by family members after they found her non-responsive.

Police said it happened around 6:30 p.m. Friday after a man, later identified as Gordon Libby, took the child from the Walmart at 4400 13th St.Police said the victim told them the man, who is described as a heavyset white man, threatened to stab with a knife, even though a weapon was never seen.Police said Libby drove the victim to the Home Depot at 4560 13th St., where he performed a sex act on himself.

LAKE COUNTY, Ohio — An autopsy performed on Christopher Beller, the man arrested for allegedly raping a teenage girl at his son’s New Year’s Eve party, shows he committed suicide by stabbing himself to death. According to officials with the Lake County Coroner’s Office, Beller, 48, was found dead in his home on Ridgeview Trail on Saturday evening. Officials say he had several self inflicted stab wounds on his body and left a suicide note. On Sunday, Lt. Mike Reed, with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, told Fox 8 News authorities had no indication of foul play in Beller’s death.

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn — A Fort Campbell soldier allegedly beat his 4-month-old son.Pfc. James Marcinkowski has been charged with aggravated child abuse. According to Channel 4’s news partners at the Leaf-Chronicle, Marcinkowski took his son to Blanchfield Army Community Hospital on Friday. The boy was reportedly bleeding from his mouth and had bruises on both his head and stomach.

Putting an end to child abuse is a shared responsibility. A HEADLINE screams out: “Child Abused!” We’re horrified. For a moment, we wonder how anyone could stoop so low and why such incidents are so common in our society today. There are times when we may actually see or hear something that could well have been abuse. But we’re not sure and then the moment passes, and we relegate it to the back of our minds. In the meantime, the world continues to be a lonely and frightening place for quite a few children out there.

Oklahoma has cut its child death rate from abuse and neglect nearly in half in four years and no longer ranks among the worst states in the nation. “That’s a good trend,” said Deborah Smith, director of the children and family services division for the Oklahoma Department of Human Services. Still, workers view any deaths as too many, she said.

An Anchorage high school vice principal is accused of child abuse and is on administrative leave pending the outcome of a misdemeanor case against her, according to the Anchorage School District. The child abuse charge filed Dec. 22 is not related to Patsy Shaha’s position as a vice principal at West High School, said School District Superintendent Carol Comeau. Shaha is a longtime employee of the district, having worked at all age levels either as a teacher or administrator, Comeau said.
