The very words exploit means to use unfairly for one’s own advantage. Sexual abuse can take the form of child exploitation for example, by photographing the child in a compromising situation, with the intent to either use the photos for their own sexual stimulation or to sell the photos as pornography. It can also mean kidnapping and selling children into prostitution, or even just forcing someone younger and weaker to do your will.

It has been estimated that 25% of the exploiters of children are other children!
This is disgusting and something needs to be done about this immediately.

One in 11 has been harassed or bullied online. And as we all know, these are only some of the dangers that our kids face while surfing the Internet. How can we simultaneously protect them from these threats and enable them to take advantage of the positive things the web has to offer?

BEND, OR — Deschutes County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a Bend man last week, after investigators learned he had downloaded child pornography from the Internet. On Thursday, January 6th, deputies searched a home at 1543 SE Bear Creek Rd., where Gary Lee Hewitt, 45, had reportedly downloaded the images. Hewitt lived at this home with several other adult males as part of an “Oxford House”, a self supported addiction recovery home. Because of that, the County Parole and Probation Department was part of Thursday investigation.

A Lauderdale County man who faces child torture charges after spanking his 5-month-old son so hard it left bruises will have his first court appearance in February. James Robert Smith, 19, 202 Chilton Ave., Florence, is charged with torture and willful abuse of a child under 1, Lauderdale County Sheriff Ronnie Willis said.

WEEKI WACHEE – A 33-year-old man was charged with child abuse following allegations he struck a girl multiple times in his house and left bruises on her legs and face. Brandon Lee Daniels, of Weeki Wachee, was arrested shortly before 5 p.m. Wednesday and booked at the Hernando County Jail. No bond amount was set.

A Columbia man was arrested yesterday on suspicion of child abuse after reports that his daughter had been beaten with a belt. The Boone County Sheriff’s Department was notified by children’s services authorities around 2 p.m. yesterday about a 4-year-old girl whose mother had found bruising on the child’s leg and buttocks, Detective Tom O’Sullivan said. Deputies questioned the suspect, Jeffrey P. Turner.

Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies charged homeowners Keith Harms, 50 and his wife Robyn Harms, 46 with child abuse after a search warrant was executed. Police seized 71 cats and 12 dogs, and according to sheriff spokesperson Gary Davidson, the conditions in the house were “deplorable.”

(STICKNEY) Three Stickney teenagers and a man from Cicero gang-raped a 14-year-old girl and recorded the attacks on a cell phone, police and prosecutors said. Alex Picallo, 16, Majeed Khalifeh, 18, and Jonathan Leanos, 19, were charged with two counts each of aggravated criminal sexual assault in the incident at Leanos’ Stickney home Saturday, said Tandra Simonton, a spokeswoman for Cook County State’s Attorney Anita Alvarez.

LAKE CHARLES, LA – It was a crime that at first lent itself to crude jokes– a woman arrested for crime against nature after having the family dog perform oral sex on her. But the case involving Pamela Fruge and her husband Shelton unfolded into something even more sordid: severe child abuse. It was the sexually deviant behavior that first called attention to the case of Shelton and Pamela Fruge– when videos were discovered of one of the family dogs performing oral sex on her. But as the facts unfolded authorities learned the case involved sexual exploitation of a six year old girl who was shown that video- and who Shelton raped. And the case had ties to a man in Denmark as D.A. John DeRrosier explains. “There was an individual who is now, I understand, under arrest in Denmark who was a willing participant in this and received some of the videos. It appears that this six year old female child was being prepared for sexual exploitation either personally physically or by video.”

GREENACRES, Fla. — Investigators said Tuesday a man who was on his normal Sunday walk found a barefoot 4-year-old girl, who was just attacked and raped, coming out of a wooded area near Weymouth Street.Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputies said Jim Hight took a shortcut to get his usual morning coffee and paper at about 6 a.m. when he stumbled upon a the girl walking out of the bushes, crying for help. Hight said he immediately called 911.

A Walnut Hills father charged with murdering his three year old son now faces the death penalty if convicted. Christopher Dangerfield was indicted today on several charges, including aggravated murder. The coroner’s office found Tyrese Dangerfield died last week from a blunt force trauma to his stomach.

The NSPCC has ‘revealed’ that hundreds of children contact the ChildLine helpline every year to report that they have been sexually abused by women. It made the announcement after it was announced that an online pedophile ring involved four women, although it was headed up by a man (not an excuse though, is it?). The police said that it was “unusual” for women to be involved in sexual abuse – adding that “we expect to see men involved in child abuse” – and while it is true that the vast majority of abuse is carried out by men this case presents a much-needed opportunity to shine a light on the extremely taboo subject of abuse by women.

Many moons ago, when I was an intern in Boston, I was assigned to do a history and physical on a teenager. She had been hospitalized multiple times for recurrent kidney infections that had spread to her blood stream and nobody could figure out why, so the kidneys were removed as they were chronically infected, and now she was dialysis dependent. She also continued to have mysterious outbreaks of bacteria in her bloodstream. The puzzle had been solved by an astute physician, who found a syringe filled with cloudy fluid that contained the bacteria that she had been infected with in her room. It turned out that the patient’s mother, with the patient’s knowledge, had been injecting her with the bacteria. This was my introduction to Munchausen’s syndrome.
