There were a lot of great things about this book. First, Jeffs’ story pulls you in from the beginning and the book is VERY hard to put down. His accounts of what life was like in the FLDS church were fascinating to read about, and even though I had already read these same types of stories from two other perspectives, both perspectives were female so it was very interesting to hear about his life as a child from a male’s point of view.

LOUDON — Charged with molesting his 2-year-old son and recording the rape, Edward William Crandall took the witness stand Tuesday and denied the allegations. But Loudon County jurors didn’t buy it. It took the five-man, seven-woman jury less than 50 minutes to convict the 24-year-old father of felony sex-related charges during his one-day trial. Jurors found Crandall guilty of aggravated child rape, sexual exploitation and aggravated sexual exploitation of a minor.

ALBUQUERQUE (KRQE) – The Office of the Medical Investigator says 17-month old BreAndra Pena had evidence of drugs in her blood at the time of her death in March. Results also show the baby girl from Espanola died from multiple blunt force injuries to the brain and abdomen.

DENVER – Police say a mother is being investigated for child abuse after a 9-month-old baby was found not breathing in a bathtub and later died. Denver Police says officers responded to the 2700 block of East 33rd Avenue on Tuesday around 10:30 p.m. and found the child not breathing.

ST. LOUIS – A kindergartener in rural Sweet Springs, Missouri, brought a bag of crystal meth and a crack pipe to school for show-and-tell, but an alert teacher kept the boy from sharing his treasure with others at the school, an official said on Tuesday. “He was very excited when he got to school,” Superintendent Donna Wright said of the September 6 incident. “But I don’t think he knew what he had.”

YAPHANK, NY – Police investigating 10 bodies dumped by a possible serial killer near a Long Island beach said on Tuesday two of the victims may be a mother and her toddler daughter. Police suspect some of the remains, found near New York’s Gilgo beach since December, belong to victims of at least one serial killer preying on prostitutes who sought clients on the Internet, including on Craigslist.

Three months after she was put in jail and charged with murdering her newborn daughter and hiding the infant’s body, a North Carolina teen has been released on bond. Rebecca Jo Blackmore, 16, of Knotts Island, was released from the Currituck County Detention Center on a $250,000 bond Tuesday, according to Lindsay Voorhees, a spokeswoman for the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office.

Two of the four people accused in the 2009 death of 4-year-old Landon Payne received the maximum sentence in Kearney County District Court Tuesday. Dustin Scoville and Sharon Turnell were sentenced Tuesday to a minimum of 49 years in prison. They will be eligible for parole in 24 1/2 years. Sharon Turnell’s husband, Charles Turnell, was sentenced Tuesday to 19 to 20 years in prison. He will be eligible for parole after nine and a half years.

EASTON, Pa. -A charity that has already raised thousands of dollars for a purportedly sick baby has caught the attention of authorities. That’s because officials said Tuesday that the whole thing is a scam. The baby’s fine, they said, and the woman behind the whole thing could soon be in a lot of trouble. The charity is called the “Save Baby Myah Foundation.”

READING, Pa. -A couple accused of neglecting their young son have been booked on felony charges. Berks County Detectives announced Wednesday the arrests of Lindsay Coleman and Rick Postetter, both of the 300 block of West Green Street in Reading. The detectives’ investigation revealed the couple’s four-year-old son weighed just 19.5 pounds when he was admitted to Reading Hospital on July 14.

Phoenix, Arizona – Mike Hale, a Phoenix area man, is under investigation after he attempted to sell the human skull of an alleged 14-year-old girl on Craigslist. According to the Phoenix Police Department, Hale posted an ad on Craigslist in an effort to sell a human skull that is believed to belong to have belonged to a girl aged 12 to 14-years old.

Authorities believe they have cracked a case involving the horrific sexual assault of an 11-month-old boy in a Bakersfield hotel room by piecing together a long string of evidence found on a videotape of the assault. The case has many unusual aspects: The attack happened more than two years ago, the infant’s parents didn’t know he had been assaulted, the key piece of evidence surfaced 3,000 miles away and the suspect was arrested in Colorado.
