Le Roy, N.Y.— Wednesday night, James Dupont attended a meeting at Le Roy Junior-Senior High School hoping to find some answers about what may be wrong with his daughter. Since the first week of December, his 17-year-old daughter suddenly had tics and showed signs of Tourette-like symptoms. But she isn’t the only one. The York State Department of Health says since September, 12 girls suddenly developed tics. Some so bad, they have had to be pulled out of school and tutored from home.

After a long battle with Huntington’s disease, Kathleen Edward, the 9-year-old girl who was taunted on Facebook in 2010, died at about 10 p.m. Wednesday night, according to Trenton Mayor Kyle Stack. Kathleen was at her father’s house in Wyandotte when she died. Kathleen was the center of a feud with neighbors,Jennifer and Scott Petkov on Detroit Street, that eventually led to Jennifer Petkov admittingly doctoring photos to depict Edward and her late mother in a skull and cross bones and embraced by the grim reaper. Laura Edward, Kathleen’s mother, died as a result of Huntington’s disease in 2009.

WHITTIER (KTLA) — The principal of a Christian school who was accused of committing lewd acts on a child will not face charges, authorities said, citing a lack of evidence. 47-year-old Daniel Edwin Weston was taken into custody on Tuesday at the Seventh Day Adventist Church School of West Covina, where he works as the principal. Prior to working in West Covina, Weston worked as a principal at Whittier Adventist Elementary School.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — An Alabama judge Thursday signed an order declaring Natalee Holloway officially dead. A probate judge made the decision at a presumption of death hearing in a Jefferson County courtroom in Birmingham Thursday afternoon. Holloway vanished in 2005 while on a graduation trip to Aruba. No one has been charged in the case. Her body has not been found.

HUXLEY, Ia. –A Huxley woman deliberately killed her two newborn girls not long after giving birth last week and left them in the trunk of her vehicle, authorities said today. Jackie Burkle, 22, was arrested Tuesday afternoon and charged with two counts of first-degree murder. If convicted, she will spend the rest of her life in prison. Burkle admitted killing the children, police said in a criminal complaint. Authorities would not say how the babies died.

School Bus Driver Charged With Molesting 10-YO Girl

More information is being released about the Morgan County bus driver accused of sexually molesting a student while on the bus. According to the Sheriff’s Department, the student was the last on the bus. Investigators stated in the probable cause statement that the victim said Tommy J. Estes stopped the bus and laid her down on the seat and kissed her. The victim, who was living with an aunt at the time, told authorities that he used his finger to touch her private area and then licked his finger. She also told investigators that he put his penis in her mouth.

Mississippi governor Republican Haley Barbour spent his final days in office granting pardons or early release to around 200 people – including more than two dozen convicted killers. The outraged families of the victims have slammed the decision as unfair but Mr Barbour has so far refused to comment. State records released on Tuesday show some of those given pardons or early release were rapists, murderers and child sex offenders.

HOUSTON, TX — Police have arrested two 10-year-old boys on suspicion of raping another child on a school bus. The boys are charged with aggravated sexual assault on a child which occurred in August. Today is national Human Trafficking Awareness Day, the annual calendar date meant to bring attention to the fact that human trafficking remains a serious problem both in the United States and abroad. According to Change.org, “Slavery is more affordable, more widespread and more entrenched in 2011 than it was in ancient Rome or the antebellum South of America. Modern-day slaves, also called human trafficking victims, can be male or female, from any country or representing any ethnicity.” In the United States, human trafficking victims are forced to work in the sex trade, as domestic servants, on farms and in factories.

SAUDI ARABIA — A Saudi man is reportedly trying to sell his son on Facebook for $20 million. The only information Saud bin Nasser Al Shahry requires from the buyer of his child is what city in which he or she is located. The Saudi Arabian man apparently is in need of money because of a court decision to shut down his illegal debt-collection business, the Venture Beat reports.

SANTA CLARITA, CA — Additional charges are expected against a Santa Clarita teen already accused of sexually assaulting more than a dozen underage girls he met on Facebook. 19-year-old Michael Downs was in court for an arraignment on Wednesday. The hearing was continued until Feb. 6.

Van der Sloot Pleads Guilty

LIMA, Peru — Joran van der Sloot pleaded guilty Wednesday to all the charges against him in the 2010 killing of a Peruvian woman. “I am really sorry for what happened,” he told the three magistrates overseeing his trial in Lima, Peru, after pleading guilty to the “qualified murder” and simple robbery of Stephany Flores. There is no jury. The 24-year-old Dutch national faces a sentence of 30 years in prison, but his attorney hopes his guilty plea, called an “anticipated conclusion of the process,” will reduce that term.

Teen Gets Maximum Sentence for Abusing His Infant Son

19-year-old Newporter DeAnthony Allen, was sentenced to 20 years in prison Wednesday morning for leaving his 3 1/2 month-old son blind and disabled following an incident in July 2010. The Providence Journal reports that Allen was the first to be sentenced under Rhode Island Attorney General Peter Kilmartin’s newly-formed Child Abuse Unit. (Read more here.) According to a December press release from Kilmartin’s office, the unit will “prosecute individuals charged with physical and sexual abuse of children.”
