FULLERTON, CA — A teenage mother was sentenced today to 16 years to life in state prison for murdering her newborn immediately after giving birth by stabbing her multiple times and hiding the corpse in her closet. Yoselin Torres Tovar, 20, Fullerton, pleaded guilty on May 1, 2012, during the second day of jury trial to one felony count of second degree murder.

IRVINE, CA — Police are once again searching an Irvine landfill for the bodies of two young boys believed to have been killed by their father more than a month ago. Investigators believe that Shazer Fernando Limas, 31, is responsible for the death of his girlfriend and their 1-year-old and 3-month-old children.

TAMPA — A toddler whose mother is accused of waiting hours to get help even though the boy was unconscious died Wednesday morning. The 2-year-old, Christian Love, was pronounced dead at 11:21 a.m. at Tampa General Hospital. Family members say they will donate some of the boy’s organs.

Child abuse reporting laws do not apply to adult patients who talk about childhood problems in therapy, the attorney general’s office ruled Wednesday. In December, the Texas State Board of Examiners of Psychologists asked the attorney general to clarify Texas’ mandatory reporter law, which requires certain professionals to report suspected child abuse or neglect to authorities within 48 hours of a disclosure.

While imposing the maximum sentence Tuesday against a woman convicted of child abuse for torturing a 21-month-old girl with cold water, a judge lamented that his options “pale in comparison to any justice that should be doled out.” Mary Horsley, 51, was sentenced to 40 years in prison for her convictions on child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury and attempted child abuse with serious bodily injury. Former newspaper proprietor Eddie Shah has been charged with several sex offenses, including the rape of a teenage girl, police said today. The 68-year-old was charged alongside a man and woman, both 52, at Hammersmith Police Station today. The charges, said to have happened on various dates in the 1990s, relate to the same alleged victim, who was then aged between 12 and 15 years.

Nixa, Mo – Megan Bowman, a 23-year-old Missouri woman was jailed Sunday after she allegedly confessed to molesting two toddlers, taking lewd photographs and then sending the images to a man she met on the Internet. According to Nixa Police, Bowman confessed to taking nude photographs of a 3-year-old girl and then sending the images to men she reportedly met through a Craigslist personal ad.
