PROVIDENCE, R.I. — An infant who was severely injured last month has died. Hasbro Children’s Hospital confirms to Eyewitness News that 8-week old Christina Jimenez, who was admitted to the hospital last month with severe injuries, has died. She suffered swelling in her brain, numerous broken bones, and had gone into cardiac arrest on the day she was hospitalized.

TEXAS CITY — A jury sentenced a man to life in prison after convicting him of aggravated sexual assault of a child, an official said Friday. A jury in Galveston’s 212th District Court deliberated less than 10 minutes Thursday before finding Ricardo Torres, 34, guilty, according to a statement from the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office. The same jury sentenced Torres to life in prison and fined him $5,000 after hearing of his criminal history, including prison terms for burglary of a habitation and credit card abuse, the statement said.

A middle school teacher faces five counts of child rape after a student, now 17, came forward to say she had sex with him on several occasions from 2007. Keisha Shaw, 33, from Tacoma, has pleaded not guilty to having sex with the former sixth-grade student starting when he was 12-years-old. According to Pierce County prosecutors, Shaw seduced the boy while she was his math and science teacher at Gray Middle School.

A sex offender has been arrested for sexually touching two young girls at a library. Joel Grubert, 49, of Brooklyn, New York, was charged on Saturday with sexual abuse for fondling two girls, ages six and nine, at the Queens Borough Public Library in Flushing, police said. The man is currently on parole for a previous conviction involving possessing child pornography of nine-year-old girls.

HOUSTON—A 58-year-old man is accused of a committing multiple heinous acts of sexual abuse on at least two children at a home day care in northwest Harris County, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office. Cesar Chavez is charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child. Investigators said Chavez assaulted the young girls while they were supposed to be in his and his wife’s care.

A pedophile has been jailed after the parents of an 11-year-old girl found a price list of sexual acts and financial rewards he had tried to bribe her with. Christopher Lunn, 67, committed sex attacks on three different girls over more than 40 years but was only caught when the schoolgirl’s hand written note was found in her room. Police then discovered that he had committed similar offences with young girls of the same age in the early 1970s and the mid 1980s after befriending their families and grooming his victims with treats.

BEIJING — Chinese police arrested 802 people on suspicion of child trafficking and rescued 181 children in a major operation spanning 15 provinces, the Chinese Ministry of Public Security said Friday. The recent operation broke up two trafficking rings and led to the arrests of the ring leaders, the ministry said in a statement posted on its website. Trafficking in children is a big problem in China. Its strict one-child policy – which limits most urban couples to one child and rural couples to two if their first-born is a girl – has driven a thriving market in babies, especially boys because of a traditional preference for male heirs.

PORTLAND, Ore. – Oregon police said they arrested Adam Lee Brown at a Portland restaurant where he allegedly pulled a 10-year-old boy in the bathroom, attempted to sexually assault him and then stabbed him several times. Brown was already on parole for trying to infect children with HIV nearly 20 years ago. Officers said the boy would have died without immediate care. His injuries from the Sunday attack were severe enough to require surgery.

The arrest of two children and a teenager with bombs and remote-controlled devices in Afganistan’s former Taliban stronghold of Kandahar has sparked fears that the militant outfit could be training more children as suicide bombers. The children were aged eight and 12 and the teenager was 17 years old, Xinhua reported citing Kandahar province spokesman Jawed Faisal. They were arrested in Zharay district of the province, while carrying multiple improvised explosive devices and homemade explosives.

INGLEWOOD — A local pastor was charged Friday with nine felony counts of allegedly committing lewd acts on a child. Gordon Solomon, 50, allegedly met the 14-year-old girl two years ago at his church, Christ’s Community Church on Hindry Avenue in Inglewood. Sheriff’s investigators say Solomon “developed an affinity for the girl,” which involved exchanging emails and texts of a “sexual nature” and meeting at various locations.

BOWLING GREEN, KY — A Kentucky couple is being accused of leaving 19 children unattended for about a week in a sweltering home in Bowling Green. The children were found Monday when the Warren County sheriff’s office responded to a complaint. Deputies found 19 children ranging from 8 months to 14 years old with no supervision and no working air conditioning or food.

PARKCHESTER, NY — Police are investigating a double murder and attempted suicide after they found two children dead in an apartment in the Bronx. It happened around midnight Thursday at 1500 Noble Ave. Police responded to a gas leak on the 9th floor. There they found the bodies of 5-year-old Trevor and 4-month-old Lillian inside an apartment.

A 2-year-old boy beaten for mispronouncing his sister’s name may lose an eye, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. The child was treated early Wednesday at Winter Haven Hospital for extensive bruising of his face as well as numerous welts from being hit with a clothes hanger his back and buttocks, records state. The injuries included a broken bone between the child’s nose and right eye from an unknown type of blow.
