VALENCIA, CA — Detectives are searching for an attempted kidnapping suspect in the Santa Clarita Valley. Sheriff’s officials say the man approached a 17-year-old girl waiting to be picked up from Valencia High School around 6:45 p.m. Monday. The girl was standing off Dickason Drive near the theatre building when the suspect parked his truck and approached her, grabbing her by the hand.

LAGUNA HILLS, CA– A pastor was convicted today of sexually assaulting five young parishioner boys in his Lake Forest apartment. Oscar D. Perez Perez, of Lake Forest, was found guilty of 22 felony counts of lewd acts upon a child under 14, four felony counts of lewd acts on a child, and sentencing enhancement allegations for lewd acts against multiple victims.

Samantha Deal, 22, from Oklahoma, is suing the state for the death of her 5-year-old daughter, Serenity, who was beat to death by her father in June 2011. Deal lost custody of her daughter, after she was charged with molesting a 10-year-old boy. She pleaded no contest to charges of forcible oral sodomy on a child.

Dying mother, Tenika Revell, from Brooklyn, New York, has been charged with beating her son, Bernard James Revell, 7, to death with a hammer, because she didn’t want to anyone else to raise him after her death. Revell also admitted to choking her son with her bare hands, a belt, and a plastic bag.

SALT LAKE CITY — A man has been arrested in the death a 6-year-old Utah girl after authorities say he sneaked into her home through a sliding glass door in the middle of the night, then raped and killed the child. Terry Lee Black, 41, a neighbor of the girl who attends the same Mormon church as her family, has been charged with aggravated murder, kidnapping and rape of a child, Salt Lake County District Attorney Sim Gill said Tuesday.

COOKEVILLE — A 42-year-old Monterey man who communicated with a 12-year-old Cookeville girl via Facebook and drove here to meet her got a surprise when he arrived at the meeting place. Instead of the girl, it was her father who met the Monterey man. The angry dad called police and also hit the man, bloodying his nose, police said. It happened Saturday and the meeting place was Cane Creek Park, says a report by Cookeville Police Officer Anthony Reep.

In the neo-natal intensive care unit at the East Tennessee Children’s Hospital in Knoxville, nurses give baby Grayson morphine every three hours to help ease his painful withdrawal symptoms. “He’s currently on 160 micrograms,” said nurse Andrew Pressnell. Other newborn babies shake and scream as nurses rush to administer care around the clock. Nearly half of the infants in the hospital’s NICU are suffering from opiate withdrawal — most from prescription painkillers.

Cell phones are not just for teenaged children any more. Nearly six out of 10 (56 percent) parents of “tweeners” (children aged 8-12) have provided their children with cell phones, according to a new survey conducted by ORC International for the National Consumers League (NCL), the nation’s oldest consumer organization. Of those parents, roughly a quarter are facing higher bills than they had expected to pay in order for their child to have a cell phone. The survey is part of NCL’s continuing commitment to providing advice to parents of pre-teens who are considering buying their children’s first cell phones.

The father of a ten-year-old girl who died after being locked in a small box in the baking heat as punishment for taking a Popsicle has been arrested – making it the sixth arrest in the horrific child murder case. David Deal, 52, from Arizona, was arrested on Monday afternoon on suspicion of felony child abuse on his daughter Ame Deal, who suffocated to death almost a year ago on July 12. Five other relatives were also arrested in connection with the ten-year-old’s death and the abuse police say she suffered through most of her life.

A 67-year-old man tearfully confessed to sexually abusing three little girls in a surprising turn of events. Barry McOwen, of Upper Salford, Pennsylvania, shockingly took the witness stand before testimony began on the second day of his trial. During his confession, McOwen read from a prepared statement that he pleaded guilty to the charges of rape of a child, sexual abuse, and dissemination and possession of child pornography.

PALOS VERDES — A high speed pursuit involving an LAUSD teacher suspected of a lewd act ended when the man’s car went airborne and crashed into a tree, authorities say. It all started just after 12:30 when detectives, who had been watching the man’s home, approached the suspect’s pick-up. The suspect reportedly told the officers he wanted to kill himself and drove off.

Myia Natrice Cole, 30, filed a missing persons report for her infant Saturday night. When police responded they found both Cole and her boy friend, Clyde Jackson, extremely intoxicated and completely unaware of the where about of their son.

18-year-old Andre McCollins was shocked 31 times by the staff at the Judge Rotenberg Center in Massachusetts, and video footage showing his experience has been released to the public for the first time. McCollins’ mother has brought a lawsuit against the Rotenberg Center for what she calls “torture” and “abuse.”
