EAST ST. LOUIS, Illinois – A convicted sexual predator is missing after leaving a halfway house last week, the Illinois Department of Corrections said Tuesday. Frederick Buettner, 40 years old, went missing July 8 from a halfway house in East St. Louis. He’d been living there since May 24. Buettner had been wearing an ankle monitoring device, but authorities believe he was able to remove it without setting off its alarm.

Monty Grow spent two seasons in the NFL, playing 15 games for the Chiefs in 1994 and four games for the Jaguars in 1995. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office issued an arrest warrant for Matthew Flugence, who is the nephew of Ahlittia’s stepfather and who often babysat for her, Sheriff Newell Normand said.

A new charge of sexual battery has been added against Donald James Smith, who was indicted Tuesday in the death of 8-year-old Cherish Perrywinkle. The cause — strangulation — also was released. Smith, 56, also was indicted on charges of first-degree murder and kidnapping. The Jacksonville girl was abducted June 21 from a Walmart on Lem Turner Road and found dead the next day.

Authorities believe she was abducted by a man who lured her by offering ice cream. For two hours, neighbors and police scoured the area and asked if anyone had seen her.
