The 37-year-old man who ran away with a 15-year-old girl has been charged with sex abuse and faces life in prison, it was revealed today. Robert Messer befriended teenager Emily Lalinksy’s mother, Lisa Schwartz, through their church in Plymouth Township, Michigan and had known the 15-year-old since she was a little girl. Today Lieutenant Cal Lauria told MailOnline: ‘He has been charged on six counts. Count one, Criminal Sexual Conduct in the first degree, which carries life imprisonment. ‘Counts two through five, Criminal Sexual Conduct in the third degree, each count carrying a 15 year penalty and Count six Accosting a Minor which carries a four years.’

Here is some background information about missing children in the United States. There are several different types of missing children: runaways, family abductions, lost or “thrown away,” and non-family abductions. Recent advances in technology, communications through public alerts, and greater cooperation from law enforcement have helped solve many cases quickly. An estimated 800,000 children are reported missing each year. (NCMEC) A study published by the Department of Justice in 2002 reported that of the 797,500 children reported missing in a one-year period, 203,900 were abducted by family members and 58,200 were abducted by non-relatives. 115 were classified as being taken by a stranger.

Soldier Faces Rape Charges

TACOMA — A 47-year-old soldier was charged Monday with second-degree rape of a child for allegedly having sex with a 13-year-old girl he met online. The defendant, Glen Winans, pleaded not guilty in Pierce County Superior Court Monday. He was ordered held on $100,000 bail. The Pierce County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office said Winans, while deployed with the U.S. Army in Afghanistan, met the girl online and engaged in multiple conversations with her. The girl told the defendant she was 15, the prosecutor’s office said.

Child Raped, Buried Alive, Digs Herself Out

A girl in Pakistan had to dig herself out of her roadside grave after being buried alive by two men after they raped her. The 13-year-old girl from the Punjab province was abducted by two men on her way to Quran lessons, India’s PTI reports. Her father told police about his daughter’s abduction, but they reportedly refused to cooperate with him. After being abducted from her home in a village in Toba Tek Singh district, the girl was allegedly raped in a deserted area. The attackers, believing they had killed her, buried her in a grave on the roadside.

$59.7M for Sandusky’s Victims

Penn State said Monday it is paying $59.7m to 26 young men over claims of child sexual abuse at the hands of former assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky. The school said 23 deals are fully signed and three are agreements in principle, but did not disclose the names of the recipients. The school faces six other claims, and the university says it believes some of those do not have merit while others may produce settlements.

NEW LONDON, CT — A father is accused of fatally shaking his 2-month-old boy and was on suicide watch in a Connecticut prison. Police say 24-year-old Adam M. Browne called 911 from his New London apartment early Friday morning to report that his son was limp and not breathing. While a dispatcher walked Browne through emergency medical procedures, the fire department sent personnel and transported the baby to the hospital.

Mia Farrow’s Brother Sentenced

Mia Farrow’s brother was sentenced today to 25 years in prison for the sexual abuse of two young boys over an eight-year period. Businessman John Villiers-Farrow pleaded guilty to two counts of child abuse after he was handed down 39 charges for the molestation of the boys who were his neighbors in Maryland in 2002. He pleaded guilty in July so he could get a lighter sentence but has always asserted his innocence. His sentence was suspended for 15 years, which means Villiers-Farrow will spend at least the next ten years in jail.

Columbus, Ohio will use an untried-dose of two drugs to put to death a condemned inmate who raped and killed his girlfriend’s 3-year-old daughter, the state prisons agency said on Monday. A warden determined the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility doesn’t have enough pentobarbital, the drug Ohio formerly used until its manufacturer put it off-limits for executions, Department of Rehabilitation and Correction spokeswoman JoEllen Smith said in an email. Instead, the state will use an intravenous combination of midazolam, a sedative, and hydromorphone, a painkiller, in the Nov. 14 execution of Ronald Phillips of Akron.

Violent Man Who Left Child Paralyzed Sentenced to Only 120-Days In Jail

MINNEAPOLIS — A 24-year-old man has been sentenced for abusing a 2-year-old in Apple Valley to the point of being partially paralyzed. On Wednesday, Carlton Lewis plead guilty to felony punishment of a child and neglect. He was then sentenced to 120 days in jail with credit for 56 days served. Police received a report on April 23 that 24-year-old Ashley Marie Roff, and her boyfriend, Lewis, were abusing two girls, leaving bruises on their bodies.

You were innocent, and your life was changed dramatically by forces in your family you had no control over, and now you are an adult survivor of that trauma. 5-YO Boy Was Murdered

The death of a 5-year-old Sun Prairie boy in a suspected case of child abuse has been ruled a homicide. The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the child, who died Thursday, as Brayden Turnbill. Brayden’s death was ruled a homicide after an autopsy Friday. The Medical Examiner’s Office said additional examinations would continue into next week. “Our police department, along with the Dane County Sheriff’s Office, continues to investigate this incident and continues to place extensive resources into the investigation,” Sun Prairie Assistant Police Chief Scott Faust said Friday.

Child Killer to be Executed

NASHVILLE, TN — Tennessee’s first execution in nearly five years — and the first using a new single-drug method — has been scheduled for January. Department of Correction spokeswoman Dorinda Carter told The Associated Press on Thursday that 55-year-old Billy R. Irick is to be executed Jan. 15. According to the state Supreme Court clerk’s office, the execution order was filed Tuesday. Irick has been on death row since 1986 for the rape and murder of a 7-year-old girl.

Foster Mom Charged With Abuse, Torture

HUNTSVILLE, AL – The foster mother of three small children has been charged with one count of Aggravated Child Abuse and two counts of Torture and Willful Abuse of a Child after a co-worker alerted authorities. Meghan Calandra Hargress, 28, was booked into the Madison County Jail on Friday morning. Huntsville Police spokesman Harry Hobbs said she was the foster mother of three small children, two girls and one boy.
