A former Los Angeles elementary school teacher charged with blindfolding students and spoon-feeding them cookies laced with his semen has agreed to plead no contest to all charges, an attorney for some of the victims said Thursday. Mark Berndt plans to enter the legal equivalent of guilty pleas to 23 charges at a hearing Friday, according to John Manly, an attorney who represents 30 Miramonte Elementary School students and their parents. Manly said he was notified of the plea by prosecutors. The plea agreement calls for Berndt to be sentenced to 25 years in prison.

BISMARCK, N.D. — A Bismarck woman faces a felony child abuse charge after authorities say her 2-year-old daughter tested positive for methamphetamine. An arrest warrant has been issued for 29-year-old Sarah Weiss. A man who answered the telephone at a home listing for her Friday declined to take a message from The Associated Press. Court documents do not list an attorney for her.

PRICE — Jail documents released Friday provide the first public glimpse into the rape and child sex abuse investigation that landed a Carbon County sheriff’s employee behind bars last month. John Gerald Shiew, 35, was arrested Oct. 30 by Price police and booked into the Emery County Jail for investigation of rape, aggravated sexual assault of a child, child abuse, enticing a minor, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and furnishing alcohol to a minor.

A 9-year-old boy was shot in the face during a drive-by as he slept inside his Miami home Friday morning. “It’s a sad situation when a child can’t be a child, when at 3:00 in the morning a kid can’t sleep comfortably in his bed,” said Miami Police spokesman Delrish Moss. Investigators say a light-colored SUV drove down the 800 block of 55th Terrace in Liberty City and sprayed the house with bullets, Local10 reports.

An Arizona father is accused of killing three members of his family before turning a gun on himself. Michael Sanders, 53, allegedly killed his 14-year-old daughter, his wife, and his wife’s brother on Tuesday, My Fox Phoenix reports. The three family members had gone to their house to pack up belongings due to a divorce that Sanders and his wife, Carol, were going through, police said. In the months prior to the incident, he had allegedly been acting erratically and getting increasingly angry with his wife and daughter.

The bodies of two members of a family that went missing in 2010 have been identified. Patrick McStay, Joseph McStay’s father told CBS 8 in San Diego that authorities informed him two of the bodies found in shallow graves in the Mojave Desert on Monday were that of his son and his son’s wife, Summer. Two other bodies were found in the graves, but McStay did not give any indication as to whether they might be the McStays’ children, Joseph and Gianni. The McStays went missing on February 4, 2010, according to Ten News.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — An 11 year old is now charged with the abuse that led to his 7-month-old brother’s death. The infant’s mother, Wendy Latwann Johnson, was charged earlier this week in Camden Johnson’s death. CMPD responded to the home on Saturday on a report of an unresponsive baby. Seven-month-old Camden was taken to Carolinas Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased. Relatives say the 11 year old confessed to abusing his brother, and doing it out of jealousy, while his mother ran an errand Saturday and was gone from the house for about 45 minutes.

A school shooting has been reported at Brashear High School in Pittsburgh. Police are searching for a gunman who shot three people near a Pittsburgh high school today. Three people were shot near Brashear High School in Pittsburgh this afternoon, according to ABC News affiliate WTAE. No one is in custody and there is a search for the shooter, according to the Pittsburgh mayor’s office. SWAT team members and armored vehicles responded to the school and surrounding neighborhood.

A Colorado man is fighting to bring back his two daughters who he claims were abducted by his ex-wife to Argentina. Dennis Burns, of Snowmass, has spent the past three years missing out on the lives of his daughters, Sophia, 4, and Victoria, 7. His ex-wife, Ana Alianelli, took them from their home after a Colorado judge ordered that the children stay in the US after a bitter 13-month long custody battle following their divorce. A judge ordered their immediate return, but it was too late. The children were 3 and 1 years old at the time.

A young mother battered her 11-month-old son to death after covering up months of abuse by pretending he was not her child, the Old Bailey heard today. Emma Wilson, 25, is accused of inflicting an ‘unsurvivable brain injury’ on her son Callum, who had also lost sight from a detached retina and had multiple fractures and bruising all over his body. The jury heard she used a false name for her son and claimed that she was looking after him for her cousin.
