U.K. — A pedophile from Leamington has been given an indeterminate jail sentence after he admitted raping two young girls. Kelvin Cyphus, of Christine Ledger Square, pleaded guilty in November to five rapes of girls aged between 11 and 13, and other sexual offences. The 53-year-old was remanded in custody without bail and received an indeterminate life sentence when he reappeared at Warwick Crown Court today (Friday). The jail sentence means Cyphus will not be released from prison until he can prove that he is no longer a danger to society.

The boarding school where Boris Johnson was taught is being sued by former students over claims of widespread sexual abuse. Two teachers are accused of subjecting children between the ages of seven and 13 to ‘horrific’ attacks in the 1970s. Ashdown House preparatory, which is known as a feeder school for Eton, is now facing a wave of compensation claims from its former pupils.

South suburban Chicago authorities say someone shot and killed a 17-year-old pregnant girl on Christmas Day — but that her baby was saved. Doctors pronounced Eva Casara, of Calumet City, dead at an area hospital Thursday morning. She had been shot in the back of the head Wednesday in Dolton. Dolton Police Chief John Franklin expressed condolences to the teen’s family. He added that it’s ‘unimaginable to lose a child on such a holy day.’

Not far away from where hundreds marched and held candle-lit vigils in memory of a medical student who died after a brutal gang-rape in the capital New Delhi exactly a year ago, the 12-year-old lay in a room, forced to come to terms with her wounds and plight virtually alone. Gang-raped some sixteen months ago and having undergone 19 reconstructive surgeries, there has been little or no outpouring of sympathy and public support for her. “These sixteen months have been the worst in in life. I am dying every single day. My life has been ruined, body violated. The pain is unbearable, but I am yet to get justice,” she says.

A New Orleans man arrested last month on several rape and child pornography charges was booked last week on additional charges which included more than 1,300 counts of possession and production of child pornography, court records show. The large number of charges, and their severity, prompted a magistrate judge to set a bond of about $10 million dollars — a rarely-seen figure.

ONE OF the highest responsibilities medical professionals hold is to recognize and report child abuse. An in-depth Globe series, however, exposes how little guidance and assistance doctors and nurses receive from the state about keeping young patients safe from “medical child abuse,” an ill-defined umbrella term used when parents are suspected of acting against the best interests of their child in a medical setting. Medical child abuse is the modern-day equivalent of what was once known as Munchausen by proxy, a mental disorder in which a parent may intentionally sicken a child in a bid for attention or sympathy. The Globe series focused on Justina Pelletier, a 15-year-old Connecticut girl who has been in state custody at Children’s Hospital for 10 months, much of that time in a locked psychiatric ward, after doctors accused her parents of endangering her by seeking treatment for a rare metabolic disorder. Children’s believes she needs psychiatric help instead. The hospital alerted the state’s child protection agency after Justina’s parents threatened to discharge her.

HORRY COUNTY, SC – Monday, Horry County Police and the Department of Natural Resources continue searching the area around Peachtree Landing in Socastee for 20-year-old Heather Elvis, who went missing last week, officials confirmed. Heather Elvis’s family set up a Facebook page, and put out a poster offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the closure of the case and her location. On Monday, a family friend of the Elvis’s added $10,000 to the reward.

NEW YORK – A man involved in a custody dispute who was supposed to turn his 3-year-old son over to the boy’s mother Sunday instead threw the child off the roof of a 52-story Manhattan apartment building before jumping to his death, police said. Officers responding to an emergency call reporting two jumpers from the building on the Upper West Side around noon Sunday found Dmitriy Kanarikov, 35, of Brooklyn, and the boy on the lower rooftops of two separate nearby buildings.

A father who killed his infant son more than a decade ago was found guilty on Tuesday of also murdering his 2-month-old daughter, whose decomposing remains were found in a trash bag at an Arkansas storage unit. Jason Hann, 38, was convicted of first-degree murder and one count of assault on a child resulting in death, according to the Riverside County district attorney’s office. The Vermont man was living in Desert Hot Springs east of Los Angeles in 2001 when he became angry that his daughter, Montana, was crying. He struck her in the head and killed her, prosecutors said.

According to the Department of Justice, each year more than 200,000 children become victims of family abduction. In an effort to increase awareness and educate the public on how common family abduction is and the importance of getting involved, the Public Service Announcement Child Abduction by a Parent or Family Member is a Crime has been developed. Through the launching of this PSA, the Task Force and CIR aim to create awareness and increase the reporting and investigation of family abduction cases.

Idaho—A Coeur d’Alene science teacher faced a judge Tuesday accused of raping a child. The judge ordered that Daniel Taylor be held on a $50,000 bond. Taylor was charged with two counts of lewd conduct and one count of rape. Court documents stated the alleged crime took place in October 2012, but was not reported until December 2013. Taylor was arrested Monday after a one week long investigation.

A 13-year-old girl has given birth to triplets in the capital of Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic The father is a 61-year-old man who is now on the run from authorities who are looking to charge him with sexually abusing a child. The young mother told local media she was ‘happy’ with her three sons, whom she has named Samuel, Joshua and Jovanny.
