A Tampa man accused of raping an underage relative was arrested in Lakeland early Monday after authorities received an anonymous tip from a citizen who saw the suspect’s photo on a billboard. Christopher Jones, 37, a registered violent sexual predator, had been eluding arrest since the sexual assault, police said. He had removed an ankle bracelet used to monitor his whereabouts, police said.

There is now a $25,000 reward for information about Heather Elvis’ disappearance. The father of a South Carolina woman missing since December 18 has begged for the public’s help to find his daughter after hundreds of volunteers turned up no sign of her during a weekend search. Terry Elvis along with about 300 people scoured the woods, swamps and beaches of Horry County for 10 hours on Saturday looking for Heather Elvis, 20. She was last seen in the early hours of December 18 after a date. Her abandoned car was found the next day at a boat landing spot in Horry County.

A violin teacher accused of a catalogue of sex abuse against young female students faces the threat of extradition proceedings so he can be put on trial in this country, it emerged yesterday. Chris Ling, 56, moved to the U.S. after a previous police probe over allegations that he preyed on girls at Chetham’s School of Music in Manchester ended without charges. However a series of new allegations were made following last year’s conviction of the school’s former director of music, Michael Brewer, for indecently assaulting Frances Andrade 30 years ago.

One of the Steubenville rapists has been released from a juvenile detention center less than a year after his conviction for raping a 16-year-old girl following an alcohol-fueled party. Ma’Lik Richmond, a high school football player who was 16 at the time of the sexual assault, was let out of the Cuyahoga Hills Juvenile Detention Center in Ohio some time around January 1. His attorney, Walter Madison, says in a statement that the youth is a ‘better, stronger person,’ and requests privacy.

STOCKTON, CA — A 10-year-old Stockton boy begged an officer to save his life after his stepfather allegedly stabbed him. Stockton police officers showed up to a gated community around 10 p.m. Saturday and found a gruesome scene inside the home off Autumn Chase Way. There was blood everywhere and a young boy pleading to officers to help him.

A sex offender accused of killing two women more than 15 years ago and raping children pleaded guilty on Monday to hundreds of charges, crying when some of his surviving victims addressed him. “I’m not a monster. I feel a lot of remorse,” Elias Acevedo said in the hushed courtroom as some of his child-rape victims, now adults, and relatives of the women watched, some wiping away tears. “I love you all, and God bless you.”

A maths teacher accused of sex offences involving a schoolgirl was allegedly caught by her mother who found him under the bed. Andrew Welsh, 35, was arrested after he was discovered at the schoolgirl’s home. Welsh appeared today before magistrates in Bolton charged with six counts of sexual activity with a girl aged 13 to 17 and abuse of a position of trust.

Thomas Joel Wagner was transferred to Federal Custody Thursday morning after serving more than four months in the Franklin County Jail on child exploitation charges. He appeared before U.S. Magistrate Judge Susan Lee in Chattanooga Thursday to be arraigned. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney James T. Brooks.

An Oklahoma mother faces serious charges after authorities say she sexually abused her children in the presence of other adults. Natalie Lynn Webb, 30, was arrested in Elk City, Okla., and charged with sexual abuse of children under 12, and child neglect. Police said she abused three of her children from December 2012 to March 2013.

PHOENIX – A 51-year-old Phoenix man remains jailed on a first-degree murder charge in the ax killing of his 13-year-old son. Gary Reagan Sherrill is being held in lieu of $1 million bond. That’s a result of his appearance before a judge Wednesday after being arrested on New Year’s Eve. Police discovered the boy dead after going to Sherrill’s home in response to a check-welfare request by Sherrill’s ex-wife, the boy’s mother.

TAMPA — A $5,000 reward has been issued for a Tampa man wanted for the sexual assault of a minor. Christopher L. Jones, 37, is registered as a violent sex offender in the state of Florida and is required to wear an electronic GPS on his ankle. Police said Jones cut off his ankle monitoring system before fleeing to avoid being arrested on charges of sexual battery to a minor under the age of 12 and lewd and lascivious molestation of a family member.

Buffalo resident Alex Mercado has been arrested and charged after shaking his three month old baby so viciously that the child went blind. Buffalo, New York police say Mercado’s shaking caused bleeding around his son’s brain, bruising on his ribs, substantial pain, and blindness. Mercado is now being charged with reckless assault on a child and second degree assault. The child’s mother is also listed on the police report, but she has not been charged with any offenses.

ORLANDO, Florida – Florida Governor Rick Scott has signed a death warrant for a man who raped and murdered a Miami-area boy in 1995, in a case that triggered changes in U.S. laws on violent sexual predators. The execution of Juan Carlos Chavez, 46, who admitted to the kidnap, rape and murder of 9-year-old Jimmy Ryce, is scheduled for the evening of February 12, according to the order signed by Scott on Thursday.
