CANNON BEACH, OR— The mother of a toddler found dead at a coastal Oregon resort has been taken into custody, authorities said Sunday night. Jessica Smith, 40, faces charges of aggravated murder and attempted aggravated murder, Clatsop County District Attorney Josh Marquis said.

A 2-month-old victim of suspected child abuse last weekend died Thursday, Denver police announced. The mother, 21-year-old Kelsy Newell-Skinner, was arrested on Monday and remains in custody. Around 11 p.m. Sunday police were called to Children’s Hospital in Aurora, where the baby girl had been transported from Parker Adventist Hospital, according to the arrest affidavit.

HARRISBURG, PA — The mother of an 8-year-old Pennsylvania boy whose decomposing body was found on the third floor of their home said Saturday she didn’t know he had died until noticing the smell. Kimberly Tutko said her husband was the primary caretaker of their mentally disabled son, and he waited several days to tell her the boy had died. Police were called to the home Friday and found the boy’s body. Police charged Jarrod Tutko, 38, on Saturday with child endangerment, concealing the death of a child and abuse of a corpse. Court records do not list an attorney for him.

Bond was set Friday morning at 10 percent of $150,000 for an Omaha man charged with felony child abuse resulting in death. During the court hearing, prosecutors began to lay their case out against Tyler Kennedy, saying that he admitted to slapping and shaking 16-month-old Orlando Were. According to prosecutors, Kennedy was caring for his girlfriend’s son while she was at work last Saturday when medics were called to their home near North 36th Avenue and Pinkney Street just after 6:30 p.m.

UK — Brian Callaghan was arrested at his home in September 2012 following several allegations of historical sexual assaults in Suffolk and Lancashire from the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s. The 78-year-old retired man from Waterford Road was charged with offences in December 2013. At Ipswich Crown Court on Wednesday he pleaded guilty to two counts of administering a drug with intent to have sex; six counts of inciting indecency with children; six counts of sexual assault; three counts of child rape; two counts of committing gross indecency with children and one count of cruelty to a child.

Washington — The state Department of Health suspended the license of a Chelan County registered nurse after he was charged with raping a child. Charles White’s license to practice was suspended today following a three-week review by Health officials. According to the agency, White was arrested April 15 in Douglas County and the state Nursing Commission referred the case to the Department of Health on July 8.

A burn victim in Washington state is now facing sex crime charges after his wife said she set him on fire for molesting her daughter, according to a report. Vincent Phillips, 52, who is in intensive care at a Harborview Medical Center, was expected to be charged with first-degree child molestation, local KOMO-TV reported. His wife, Tatanysha Hedman, said he assaulted her 7-year-old little girl.

A Florida man faces the death penalty after being convicted of killing his girlfriend’s baby in 2009 by throwing the three-month-old out of a moving car while speeding down a highway. Richard McTear, of Tampa, was found guilty Thursday of first-degree murder and other charges related to the death of Emanuel Murray Jr. Prosecutors argued during the trial he killed the baby to spite his mother. McTear is believed by authorities to have taken the child on a drive after an argument with Jasmine Bedwell, 22, and tossed him out of the moving car. Blood stains were later found on McTear and in the vehicle, cops said.

A stepfather who killed his two-year-old stepson following years of abuse has been jailed for at least twenty years and six months. Gregory Wayne Hill, 40, pleaded guilty last year to murdering his stepson on March 3, 2008 while he was caring for little Jakob Brown at The Oaks in Sydney’s south west. During that day, the court heard Hill delivered the two savage blows that would kill the boy. The first attack ripped the two-year-old’s stomach wall and would have caused him ‘enormous pain’. But instead of seeking medical attention, Hill watched the boy’s suffering for hours before delivering the fatal blow to his head. The boy was pronounced dead on arrival at Campbelltown Hospital. In sentencing Hill to a maximum of 27 years and 6 months at the Supreme Court on Thursday, Justice Geoffrey Bellew said the 40-year-old had shown a ‘callous disregard’ for the boy.

A man accused of raping a mother and her 8-year-old daughter at knife-point in Alabama is behind bars after leading law-enforcement officials on a four-day manhunt. David Pitts, 44, had been on the run from Ozark since Thursday, when he was accused of raping a 30-year-old woman at gunpoint and making her daughter watch. He then allegedly assaulted the little girl in front of her mother. Pitts was arrested without incident at Bethesda Hospital East after the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office received a tip that he was being treated there.

OKLAHOMA CITY – An Oklahoma mother is now pushing to make a change with the state’s Sex Offender Registry. She says the pictures on the website are so old you can’t recognize the people who could be a danger in your neighborhood. Now lawmakers are getting involved. The bill is basically the same as the current Sex Offenders Registration Act. The only change is instead saying law enforcement “may” take a photo each time, it says they “shall”.
