Spruce Grove resident Melanie Duhan doesn’t have many memories from her childhood. The ones she does are painful reminders of the vicious abuse she and her mother suffered through for years. Duhan recalled a time as a child when she watched her six-foot-four, 250-pound father beat her mom “like a dog” and drag her by her hair across the front yard, kicking her with his steel-toed boots.

“I sat there frozen not being able to do anything,” said Duhan, now 47.

Victor Barahona, whose twin sister was killed after allegedly enduring years of horrific abuse, will return to Texas to live with an uncle who wants to adopt and raise him. On Friday morning, Miami-Dade Circuit Judge Maria Sampedro-Iglesia signed an order returning the boy to Texas, where he spent most of the summer with his extended family. Victor told authorities he did not wish to live in Florida, but Sampedro-Iglesia ordered his return anyway, for a custody hearing requested by Miami prosecutors who will try his adoptive parents, Carmen and Jorge Barahona, for murder.

Twilight hunk Kellan Lutz has opened up about the bullying hell he suffered as a child in the hope his story will help others get the help they need to combat cruel tormentors. The actor was teased mercilessly by classmates because he had big ears; they dubbed him Dumbo after the Disney cartoon character. He admits turning to his older siblings for help was not an option – because they also terrorised him.

David James (Dave) Pelzer is an American author, best known for his 1995 memoir of childhood abuse, A Child Called “It”. Pelzer was born in San Francisco, California, and was the second of five boys. Pelzer wrote in his book that as a child he was continually abused, mistreated, and beaten by his mother, who thought of it as a game. The book documents how his mother starved him, forced him to drink ammonia, stabbed him in the stomach, burned his arm on a gas stove and forced him to eat his own vomit. His teachers stepped in on March 5, 1973 and 12-year-old Pelzer was placed in foster care. In 1979, he joined the Air Force and later became an author.

Child Molestation

A child molester is described as an older person, male or female, which experiences any type of sexual act with another person who is a child. The majority of child molesters, more than 95 percent, are male. America’s most famous female child molester, Mary Kay Letourneau, is currently serving a seven-and-a-half year sentence in a Washington state prison for her sexual involvement with a 13-year-old boy⁽³⁾. The relationship began when the victim was a student in her sixth-grade class. Letourneau has given birth to two daughters fathered by the youth. One was born in prison. But Letourneau’s case is rare. It does not seem to be part of the psychological composite of females to sexually molest a child. That compulsion, whatever its origin, seems to lie deep within the male psyche.
