CASA for Babies: ‘Saving Isabella’

Posted by Sandra On December - 18 - 2011 1 COMMENT

A CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) volunteer is needed to serve as a “Baby CASA” for 1½-year-old “Isabella.” Child Protective Services (CPS) removed Isabella from her mother because the home she was living in – which included five adults and eight children – was filthy and unsafe, with shards of metal and other sharp objects accessible to the little girl both inside and in the yard of the home. Piles of garbage were also found throughout the home. In addition, the mother exposed Isabella to domestic violence when she took the baby to visit her boyfriend, who once assaulted Isabella and also had weapons in his home. The mother had a history of substance abuse dating back to when she was 11 years old, as well. The father was unable to parent Isabella because of several pending criminal charges due to his violent nature.

Jesse James Says Being an Abused Child Caused His Cheating

Having spent several earlier segments of his ABC interview baring his soul, Jesse James saved the strongest revelation for last. He admitted on Tuesday’s Nightline that he was the victim of abuse as a child, and that the shame of it drove him to cheat on wife Sandra Bullock and destroy his perfect marriage. “I was a terrorized kid,” James, 41, said about beatings he received from his father. “I was petrified of my dad … It wasn’t so much getting the sh– beat out of me or getting my arm broken or getting kicked or whatever or punched, it was the in-between time. It was the fear of that happening again.”  READ MORE HERE

11-YO Penn State Victim Receives Encouraging Letter from Tyler Perry

Posted by Sandra On November - 29 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

Hollywood’s Tyler Perry writes to a young boy involved in the Penn State scandal to tell him he isn’t a victim at all—he’s a survivor.

I don’t know your name, but I know your face. I don’t know your journey, but I know where you are. I am your brother! I must tell you, what you have done is so courageous. The strength that it must have taken for your 11-year-old voice to speak out about such a horrible act is something that I didn’t have the strength or courage to do at that age.

Three-year-old Johnny Crisco’s big, dark eyes could eventually be affected by abuse he endured as a baby. An observant person might notice his head isn’t shaped quite right. The fractures in the child’s skull have healed, as has his broken nose. But he may always suffer the consequences of his abuser’s actions. In June 2009, Johnny’s mother, Candice Crisco, went to work at a thrift store for a few hours. She left the 7-month-old baby in the care of her boyfriend, Adam Dale Watson.

Robin Quivers “I Didn’t Tell!”

Posted by Sandra On November - 18 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

The Penn State scandal is keeping child sexual abuse in the headlines and in our national conversation like nothing else ever has. I think that it’s great. It’s great because child abuse is rampant in our society and we still haven’t figured out how to handle it when it happens, what to do with the perpetrators or how to prevent it. We’ve been treating it like it’s just going to go away every time we uncover it.
