Sexual predator escapes from local halfway house, remains at large 

EAST ST. LOUIS, Illinois – A convicted sexual predator is missing after leaving a halfway house last week, the Illinois Department of Corrections said Tuesday. Frederick Buettner, 40 years old, went missing July 8 from a halfway house in East St. Louis. He’d been living there since May 24.  Buettner had been wearing an ankle monitoring device, but authorities believe he was able to remove it without setting off its alarm. READ MORE HERE

Two teenage boys are being hailed as heroes after they chased a car carrying a kidnapped girl — on their bicycles. Five-year-old Jocelyn Rojas was playing in her front yard in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, when she vanished Thursday afternoon. Authorities believe she was abducted by a man who lured her by offering ice cream. For two hours, neighbors and police scoured the area and asked if anyone had seen her. Temar Boggs, 15, and his friend took off on their bicycles to search. A man who drove off after reversing into a mother and her child is being sought by US police, who have released footage of the incident. Police in Michigan are trying to identify a driver who backed into a woman pushing a buggy with her child inside and dragged the one-year-old a short distance before fleeing. Authorities released video of the pushchair being hit and dragged by a minivan in the parking lot of a store in Muskegon. Crime Stoppers: Man wanted on child abuse charges

This weekend’s Crime Stoppers centers around a man with active warrants for aggravated child abuse. 25- year old Tyrone McCollum caught the eye of police back in May after a three-year old that had been placed in his care wound up with bruises on her lower neck. Abducted Boy Was Screaming When Pulled into Van

An alert was issued at 4:30 p.m. July 4 that a boy was reported abducted in Spotsylvania County. The FBI, Virginia State Police and the Spotsylvania Sheriff’s Office are asking for the public’s help finding a young boy who a witness said was kicking and screaming while being forced into a van on the Fourth of July. At 1:40 p.m. Thursday, the Spotsylvania County 911 center received a call from a witness reporting an abduction in progress at Holleybrooke Drive in the county, said Capt. The parents of murdered toddler James Bulger expressed outrage last night that one of his killers is to be freed again. Denise Fergus and Ralph Bulger said they were ‘filled with terror’ by the decision to grant parole to Jon Venables, 30. The child killer, who was controversially released from his life sentence in 2001 with a new taxpayer-funded identity, was sent back to jail three years ago after being caught with depraved images of children as young as two on his computer. Adrienne Salinas Update: $6K reward offered for missing AZ college student

TEMPE, AZ – A $6,000 reward is being offered for information regarding the disappearance of Adrienne Salinas, an Arizona college student who has been missing for over a week, CBS affiliate KPHO reports. Salinas was last heard from in the early hours of June 15 after she and her roommates hosted a party at their apartment in Tempe. Police say the teen was last heard from around 4:30 a.m. that day when she called a friend to say she was coming over, the station reports. Rape, child molest suspect caught in Oregon

A former Moreno Valley man wanted since 2009 on child molestation and rape charges was arrested Tuesday, June 25, at a motel in Oregon. The Riverside County district attorney’s office received a tip that fugitive Carlos Alberto Campuzano, 35 , was staying at a motel in Eugene, Ore., according to a release from the district attorney’s office. Authorities began watching the motel, spotted Campuzano and arrested him. SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH – Police are asking for help locating a man accused of raping a child. On May 29, police say Bolo Chervon Lapiste was shot twice in the back, allegedly by Anthony Vick. Vick was arrested earlier this month in connection with the shooting. Now Lapiste is facing three charges of raping a child and police are asking for help locating him. READ  MORE HERE

SUSPECT ACCUSED OF SHAKING BABY

OAKLAND PARK, FL – Detectives with the Broward Sheriff’s Office are telling CBS 4 that they are working to locate a child abuse suspect accused of shaking a baby. Sixteen-month-old Michael Zink appears to be just like any other child — walking, climbing and playing. But his mother Jennifer says that about a year ago she got a call from her then-boyfriend Michael Benner — who was watching her children. “He had called me and started panicking and told me that something’s wrong with Michael,” she told CBS 4?s Carey Codd. “He’s not acting normal.” Zink says she rushed home from work to her Oakland Park apartment. Ex-USC professor on FBI Top 10 Most Wanted list APPREHENDED in Mexico

A former professor at the University of Southern California suspected sexually abusing young boys and producing child pornography was yesterday arrested in Mexico. Walter Lee Williams, 64, was captured yesterday evening while drinking coffee near a park in the beach town of Playa del Carmen, on the country’s Carribean coast. He was on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list for charges of sexual exploitation of children and travelling abroad for the purpose of engaging in sexual acts with children. On July 24, 2006 a family and all of Franklin were forever changed as the result of a horrifying double murder — 10-year-old Blake Dickus and his 26-year-old stepmother Chynna Dickus were brutally slain in their north side Franklin home. Murders are a rarity in smaller communities like Franklin. They are especially shocking when a child is a victim. Since that tragic day, the Franklin Police Department has worked diligently to solve this crime. Despite their valiant efforts the case has remained unsolved for seven years.
