A Dakota County man could spend the rest of his life in prison for killing his 17-month-old stepson. A judge sentenced 24-year-old Tylar Hokanson Thursday after a jury found him guilty on two murder charges. Prosecutors say Hokanson shook his stepson at least 15 times at a rural Northfield home in June 2009, causing internal bleeding. Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom says 17-month-old Nicholas Miller was being squeezed so hard, a bone broke in his back.

WINNIPEG – A Winnipeg woman has pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the suffocation death of her 20-month-old daughter. Nicole Redhead will be sentenced early next year. Redhead, 28, was arrested in July 2009 after her daughter Jaylene was found dead in a suite at the Native Women’s Transition Centre in Winnipeg. Redhead had repeatedly assaulted the girl in the days leading up to her death, Crown attorney Colleen McDuff told court Wednesday. The toddler suffered 30 separate injuries, including severe bruising and swelling to her vagina and bite marks on her legs.

Prosecutors Say Jawbone Is Not Natalee Holloway’s

18-year-old Natalee Holloway disappeared during a trip to Aruba in 2005.

ORANJESTAD, Aruba ( KTLA) — Prosecutors in Aruba say a jawbone found on an island beach earlier this month does not belong to missing Alabama teenager Natalee Holloway. Analysis based on dental records ruled out that the bone fragment came from her. Officials determined the jawbone belonged to a young woman, raising speculation the bone may have been the remains of 18-year-old Holloway who was last seen on the island in 2005.

BARRIE, Ont. — Elaine Campione’s face suddenly contorted into a grimace and her body shook violently as she stood in the prisoner’s box and the jury announced a guilty verdict Monday. The jury found Campione guilty of two counts of first-degree murder in the deaths of her daughters, Serena, 3 and Sophia, 1, whom she drowned in the bathtub on Oct. 2, 2006. The jurors deliberated more than six days. Three female jurors silently wiped tears from their eyes. The woman they had just convicted began wailing, then crumpled over in the prisoner’s box.

Girl Found Dead In Compton

COMPTON ( KTLA) — A 2-year-old girl died at a hospital Friday afternoon after she was found unresponsive at a home in Compton. Homicide detectives from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department were called to the 500 block of Crane Street, near Alondra Blvd around 3:45 p.m. The cause of death is unknown at this time. The girl’s name has not been released.

HICKORY, N.C. – A source close to the investigation tells NewsChannel 36 Hickory Police will hold a 4 p.m. news briefing on Friday in which investigators will announce that remains found Wednesday are in fact that of Zahra Baker. Hickory police confirmed that they will hold a press conference, but did not say anything specific about the reason or topic of the conference. Zahra Baker was reported missing by her father and stepmother, Adam and Elisa Baker, on Oct. 9.

The book, which generated outrage on the Internet and threats to boycott the retailer, has been pulled from the site. It wasn’t immediately clear whether Amazon.com Inc. or the author withdrew it.

The initial availability of “The Pedophile’s Guide to Love and Pleasure: a Child-lover’s Code of Conduct” called into question whether Amazon has any procedures — or even an obligation — to vet books before they are sold in its online stores.

Dead Baby Found in Trash Can, Teen Mom Questioned

LOS ANGELES ( KTLA) — An 18-year-old woman is being questioned by police after her newborn baby was found dead inside a trash can. The baby boy’s body was found around 7 p.m. Monday inside a wastebasket at a home in the 4500 block of Simpson Avenue, officials said. The woman gave birth last Friday, according to LAPD Lt. John Romero. Officers were called to investigate after the woman received treatment at a local hospital without a baby, Romero said.

SAN ANTONIO — 22-year-old Rafael Trevino is facing a Capital Murder charge for killing his 7-week-old baby girl, San Antonio Police say. EMS was called the Trevino home in the 10000 block of Medio Creek around 7 a.m. on Thursday.
