Mom on trial for strangling daughter, 8

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. – The trial for a North Kingstown mother accused of strangling her 8-year-old daughter because she wouldn’t take a bath more than two years ago is underway. During opening statements Friday morning, prosecutor Stephen Regine said Kimberly Fry, 38, strangled her daughter Camden, 8, with her bare hands, inside their North Kingstown home back in 2009.

BENBROOK, Texas – Family members of a 14-month-old baby say they saw signs of abuse before his death Thursday evening and offered to take care of him full time. But they say their offer was declined. In fact, there was nothing the Ferrell family says they wouldn’t do for their grandson Kamden Lee Bailey. They were especially delighted when the child woke up from a nap.

Woman Pleads Guilty in Death of Step-Daughter

HICKORY, N.C. — A North Carolina woman pleaded guilty on Thursday to second-degree murder in the death of her 10-year-old stepdaughter, a cancer survivor whose prosthetic leg and other remains were found scattered at several sites. Zahra Baker, a freckled Australian native who also had a hearing impairment as a result of cancer, was reported missing last October in the small town of Hickory.

SAN BERNARDINO, CA — Authorities in San Bernardino are searching for the gunman who wounded a 22-year-old pregnant woman and shot two toddlers — killing one of them — in an apparent revenge attack. The shooting was reported around 7:40 p.m. Monday along the 1300 block of D Street, said Lt. David Harp.

LAKEWOOD – A 2-year-old girl has died after police say they were called to an apartment Wednesday on reports of a child that wasn’t breathing. Lakewood Police say they were called to the apartment in the 700 block of South Vance Street shortly after 5 p.m. Officers say when they arrived, they found 2-year-old Dolci Gryshayeva unresponsive and took her to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

A Cumberland County father is charged with killing his baby girl. According to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, William Allen Davenport, 39, of 132 Buck Creek Road, Crossville, was indicted on one count of felony murder and one count of aggravated child abuse by the Cumberland County Grand Jury on Thursday.

PHOENIX – A father was arrested after admitting to throwing his infant daughter to the ground, causing several fractures on the child’s arm. Detectives were called by staff at Good Samaritan Hospital after Samuel Herrera, 21, took his infant daughter Audrina Herrera to the hospital with a broken arm.

Steven Smith raped, killed 6-month-old girl in 1998

MANSFIELD, OH — An execution date is set for a Mansfield man who raped and killed his girlfriend’s 6-month-old daughter in 1998. The Ohio Supreme Court on Thursday ordered Steven T. Smith’s death sentence to be carried out May 1, 2013, at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility. “This is one of the most heinous crimes I ever dealt with as a prosecutor,” said Mansfield Municipal Court Judge Jerry Ault, who was first assistant prosecutor for Richland County when he tried the case.

SCOTLAND–A paedophile has admitted raping a 14-month-old baby girl and filming the abuse on a webcam at his home. David Morrison, 45, of Grangemouth, also admitted being in possession of a library of child abuse images at the High Court in Glasgow on Friday. Morrison admitted that he raped the child after evidence of the sexual abuse was built up by police through combining online chat logs, photographs and expert analysis of veins in Morrison’s hands.

Mom Blames ‘Ghost’ For Death Of Two Daughters

DALLAS — A 10-year-old Dallas-area boy who died of dehydration after his father and stepmother kept water from him was being punished for wetting the bed, authorities say. The boy, Jonathan James died July 25 after water was kept from him for five days while temperatures soared to 100 degrees or more each day, police said. The boy’s dad, Michael Ray James, and stepmother, Tina Alberson, both 42, were jailed after being charged Thursday with injury to a child causing serious bodily injury.
