EMINGTON, Ill.– Five people, including three children, were found shot to death at a home in the small Illinois town of Emington in what authorities are calling a murder-suicide. County coroner Michael Burke identified those killed as: 30-year-old Sara McMeen, 29-year-old Daniel Warren, 8-year-old Skyler Lemke, 7-year-old Ian Lemke and 10-month-old Maggie Warren.
UNION, S.C. — Union County deputies say a man has been charged with homicide by child abuse after the 9-month-old girl he was babysitting died from injuries suffered in his care. Investigators said the girl was taken to the hospital last week with bruises on her face and died Friday from a fractured skull.
AMSTERDAM — Police arrested 112 people in 22 countries after a yearlong investigation into child pornography, Europol said Friday, warning that technology is making combating the spread of child abuse images ever more difficult. The operation targeted people sharing “the most extreme forms of video material,” including images of babies and toddlers being sexually abused or raped, the European police coordination agency said. A babysitter has been accused of slitting the throat of a four-year-old boy and sending a photo of his mutilated body to his mother to prove that he had killed the boy. Terry Joe ‘TJ’ Volner took a series of photos after allegedly killing the boy, including one showing the dead boy’s chin propped up by a stick. Prosecutors said the 22-year-old man took the gruesome ‘trophy’ photos to prove to his mother Tina Miller, that he had killed the Dusty Guenther, the only son of Gina Guenther who Volner knew very well. San Antonio, TX – On Tuesday, we reported a case in which a Laredo, Texas woman shot her two children and then herself after she was denied food stamps at a Texas Health and Human services office. BLACKBURG, VA — Police have identified the man responsible for shooting and killing a Virginia Tech police officer. Officials say 22-year-old Ross Truett Ashley killed the officer, then killed himself. Ashley was a part-time student at nearby Radford University, according to police. Police also say Ashley stole a car on Wednesday from a real estate office in Radford, which is about 15 miles from Virginia Tech. READ MORE HERE
A Houston County judge sentenced a Texas man to 90 years in prison for molesting and sodomizing an 8-year-old girl in Dothan. District Attorney Doug Valeska said the jury convicted Lemar Dennis Bell, 39, of Grapeland, Texas, of felony first-degree sodomy and felony sex abuse of a child under the age of 12. READ MORE HERE

A brutally disfigured body discovered in a dumpster may be that of a 7-year-old girl who went missing at her family’s apartment complex in Canton, Ga., investigators told reporters today. “This is going to be a very, very horrendous crime. I am convinced of that after having observed the body,” Georgia Bureau of Investigation director Vernon Keenan said. “A child who dies under extreme violence is absolutely the worst thing that can happen to a human being.” READ MORE HERE

GUILFORD COUNTY, N.C. — A 36-year-old woman killed herself after shooting six people, including her two sons and three other children in the head. Mary Ann Holder, 36, wrote two notes taking responsibility for the murderous rampage and apologizing for the pain she caused before shooting herself inside her parked Ford Explorer, investigators said. Before shooting herself, investigators say Holder shot her sons and three other children in the head, killing 3 of them.

Ricardo Costa, once held on $75 Million bond, takes shocking plea deal in child abuse case
PRESCOTT – Ricardo Costa, held in the Yavapai County Jail for most of the last three years on a record-breaking high bond of $75 million dollars, accepted a plea agreement and will serve only: lifetime probation. Costa, 39, was charged with two counts of continuous sexual abuse of a child. He originally faced a dozen counts of sexual misconduct and was not eligible for bond. Last year, those charges were thrown out and Yavapai County Superior Court Judge Tina Ainley set his bond at $75 million, cash only.
