CHILDREN BEING USED FOR RITUAL SACRIFICE

WASHINGTON, January 17, 2011— Human trafficking often involves prostitution and forced labor of victims. But in Uganda, traffickers buy and sell children against their will to use their genitals, heads, and blood for ritual sacrifice.  The U.S. Department of States recently reported 9000 children missing in Uganda over the last four years. Traffickers transport children both inside Uganda and to other countries for use in ritual sacrifices.   READ MORE HERE

Alyssa Bustamante will not have a jury trial in a few weeks, like previously scheduled.Tuesday morning Cole County Circuit Judge Patricia Joyce accepted Alyssa Bustamante’s withdrawal of a not guilty plea to 1st degree murder. Bustamante then pleaded guilty to an amended charge of 2nd degree murder and armed criminal action. Judge Joyce scheduled Bustamante’s sentencing for February 6. The sentencing is expected to last two days while attorneys present evidence of what they believe Bustamante’s sentencing should include. There will be additional testimony at the sentencing hearing. Defense attorneys said they will provide psychiatric and mental health background information. Prosecuting Attorney Mark Richardson said he expects to call 6 witnesses at the sentencing hearing.  READ MORE HERE

LIMA, Peru — Joran van der Sloot pleaded guilty Wednesday to all the charges against him in the 2010 killing of a Peruvian woman. “I am really sorry for what happened,” he told the three magistrates overseeing his trial in Lima, Peru, after pleading guilty to the “qualified murder” and simple robbery of Stephany Flores. There is no jury. The 24-year-old Dutch national faces a sentence of 30 years in prison, but his attorney hopes his guilty plea, called an “anticipated conclusion of the process,” will reduce that term.  READ MORE HERE

He likely would never walk, sit up or eat on his own. CHICAGO — A 13-year-old girl who allegedly left her newborn son in a trash container behind her Country Club Hills apartment complex has been released from the hospital, and police and prosecutors are awaiting autopsy results as they consider charges against the young mother, Police Chief William Brown said. SUMMARY: A former Penn State defensive coordinator, Jerry Sandusky, was charged Nov. 5 with sexually abusing eight boys over a 15-year stretch. Two university officials stepped down after being charged with perjury in the case. Neither Joe Paterno, the longtime football coach, nor Graham B. Spanier, the university president, was charged, but questions were raised about whether they and an assistant, Mike McQueary, did as much as they could have done to stop the suspected assaults. Paterno and Spanier were fired last week, and McQueary was put on administrative leave.

STATE COLLEGE, PA – In a massive shakeup, Penn State football coach Joe Paterno and school president Graham Spanier were fired Wednesday night by the board of trustees amid the growing furor over how the school handled child sex abuse allegations against an assistant coach. The longtime coach, the winningest in major college football, was ousted at the end of day that began with his announcement to retire at end of the season, his 46th. It was not to be.

Famous Sportswriter Quickly Retires Amist Child Molestation Allegations

Hall of Fame sportswriter Bill Conlin has retired from his position with the Philadelphia Daily News following allegations of child molestation, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer. An investigative story detailing the allegations against Conlin was published Tuesday afternoon by The Inquirer. In it, three women and a man say Conlin molested them when they were children.

Human Trafficking Group Killed Saunders

BETHANY, Oklahoma – Bethany Police made two major announcements Tuesday afternoon in the investigation into Carina Saunders’ murder: they’ve made an arrest and they’re looking for a person of interest who may have vital information in the case. Police arrested 33-year-old Jimmy Lee Massey Tuesday morning on a complaint of first-degree murder in the 19-year-old woman’s death.
