A baby girl is dead after the Florida Department of Children and Families failed to remove her from her drug addicted, violent parents, who had already been the subject of more than 10 reports to the state’s abuse hotline. Little Emma Morrison was just 49 days old when her mother, Lisa Lamoureaux, 33, found her lifeless in her crib at around 9:30 a.m. on January 17 after putting her to sleep nine hours earlier and failing to check on her.  The murky circumstances surrounding her death are still being investigated by Palm Beach County sheriff’s Office and the medical examiner. Lamoureaux had a long history of drug abuse, she had been arrested nine times and her four older children had been permanently taken from her by the state, according to the Miami Herald. But the newspaper reported DCF’s only action after Lamoureaux gave birth to Emma late last year was to refer her to parenting classes that she turned down or was unable to get access to. Dozier School for Boys, or which one is Thomas or Owen or Robert.  Nobody is quite sure how most of them died — the cause is often listed as “unknown” or “accident” — or why a great number were buried with such haste. The scattered graves bear no markings: no names, no loving sentiment. OKLAHOMA CITY — A jury has recommended the maximum sentence for the defendant who stood trial in the death of an Edmond toddler. At about 3:40 p.m. Monday, the 8-woman, 4-man jury announced they had reached a verdict. They had received the case from Oklahoma County District Judge Glenn Jones at about 1:05 p.m. when closing statements ended. The defendant, Rico Antwoine Berry, 28, entered the courtroom wearing a dress shirt and tie; he would later leave wearing handcuffs and with the knowledge he had been found guilty on charges of first-degree murder and child neglect. UPDATE: The 10-year-old who was strangled by his mother died Thursday, Tucson Police spokesman Sgt. Chris Widmer said. The boy was strangled Jan. 30. The mother of the boy told police in the ensuing 911 call that she had choked her son. The boy remained in the hospital until Thursday, where he succumbed to his injuries, Widmer said. A 5-year-old boy who was being held hostage in an underground bunker in Alabama for nearly a week has been released while his abductor is now dead, authorities said Monday. In a press conference Monday night, FBI Special Agent Steve Richardson told reporters the little boy had endured a lot and that he was receiving medical treatment. “The boy is laughing, joking, playing, he’s eating; he’s very brave, he’s very lucky, and the success story is that he is out safe and doing good,” he said. Jackson County authorities have accused a 30-year-old woman of second-degree murder, child abuse and first-degree child endangerment in the death of a 3-month-old infant whom she baby-sat during an overnight visit. Prosecutors charged Sonya Nerissa Perry of Grandview on Monday in the death of Stephon McCoy, who was taken off life support by his parents on Jan. 17. A toddler’s remains were found in an oven. Andrey Gadzhiev, 34, admitted to killing and dismembering his helpless one-and-a-half-year-old niece and roasting her remains in a hot oven. According to Daily Mail, Andrey Gadzhiev’s sister Elena Titova, 29, had left him caring for the toddler for fifteen minutes while she visited a neighbor. When she returned there was no sign of the child and her intoxicated brother could not explain what had happened to her. 3 Wounded in LONE STAR COLLEGE Shooting

HOUSTON — A shooting on a Texas community college campus wounded three people Tuesday and sent students fleeing for safety as officials placed the campus on lockdown, officials said. Harris County Sheriff’s Maj. Armando Tello said authorities had detained a person of interest.  Authorities also thought there could be a second shooter, according to a law enforcement official in Washington who spoke on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the ongoing case. A 5-year-old girl who was abducted from a Philadelphia school on Monday has been found safe, and now authorities are looking for the people who snatched her. Nailla Robinson was found hiding under a jungle gym in a park in Upper Darby by a man who heard her cries on Tuesday morning, police said. In Philadelphia, police are still searching for the person who kidnapped a five-year-old girl from her elementary school, spawning a statewide Amber Alert. The child was found overnight, partially clothed, hiding under a jungle gym. A sanitation worker heard her crying for help, wrapped her in his jacket and she told him someone was chasing her. The child is in the hospital. Meanwhile, investigators are trying to determine whether she was sexually assaulted. School surveillance video shows a woman, who told school officials she was the child’s mother, taking the girl from school Monday morning.

California school shooter felt bullied, police say

TAFT, CA —  A 16-year-old student armed with a shotgun walked into a rural California high school on Thursday, shot one student and fired at others and missed before a teacher and another staff member talked him into surrendering, officials said. The teen victim was in critical but stable condition, and the suspect, whose pockets were stuffed with ammunition, was still being interrogated, Sheriff Donny Youngblood said at a news conference Thursday evening.
