“ROOF-SIT” Fundraiser puts friends in high places

FORT GRATIOT, MI — With a suitcase in hand, Chuck Santoni stepped off the ladder of a fire truck Sunday and onto the roof of the Birchwood Mall.

Santoni, the morning show host at Q Country 107, won’t leave that roof until 6 p.m. Friday — part of a weeklong fundraiser for the St. Clair County Child Abuse and Neglect Council. “It’s not bad,” Santoni said of staying on the roof, where he has a tent and a sleeping bag. “It’s such a great cause, and that kind of overshadows everything else.” Santoni, who is participating in his sixth roof sit, said it is important to help raise money for the council to help protect children.

I often think back to when I was a child. I remember how excited I became as the Christmas season grew near, and how exciting, through a child’s eyes, the magic of the holiday season was.

I can still hear my mother calling my name, when my personal letter from Santa Claus arrived. As I ran down the stairs, I was so excited that Santa Claus, had took the time to personally write me a letter.

Now you can create the same memories for your child, children or loved ones with a personalized letter from Santa Claus. Personalized Children’s Letters will send your child, children or loved ones a personalized letter from Santa Claus, all for the low, low price of $5.95.

The websites states, supplies are limited, so in order to beat the holiday rush, pre-order your personalized letter, today! Letters will be mailed 2 weeks prior to Christmas to assure delivery.

Anyone who purchases a letter, a donation will be made in your name to support the Michigan based 501 (c) 3 non-profit, child abuse and neglect organization, Dreamcatchers for Abused Children.

Miss Tennessee 2006 Blaire Pancake and Benji Wood joke with one another as they ask for donations during the Circles of Hope Telethon to benefit the Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse on Sunday.

‘It is time we stop this abuse,’ Circles of Hope supporter says

Orlando Martinez stayed up late in Iraq last year to try to watch his daughter sing for the Circles of Hope Telethon via an Internet feed. About halfway through the event, the connection went down.

On Sunday evening, Martinez sat in the audience at the Carl Perkins Civic Center — relaxed and smiling — as 11-year-old Maggie took the stage to sing. It is the third year Maggie took part in the Circles of Hope Telethon, which is the largest fundraiser for the Exchange Club/Carl Perkins Center for the Prevention of Child Abuse.
