PIKEVILLE, N.C. — A 21-year-old woman and 27-year-old man wanted on child abuse charges surrendered to authorities late Wednesday, a spokeswoman for the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday. According to investigators, Christian Amanda Tomeski and Thomas John Strickland, both of 2020 Rosson Drive in Pikeville, took Tomeski’s 2-year-old son to a pediatric clinic for treatment of bruises on his head, ears and neck. An infant was fighting for his life Monday in a Milwaukee hospital and a Fond du Lac man is facing serious child abuse charges. Jason J. Schifelbine, 34, was charged Aug. 18 with physical abuse of a child – intentionally causing great bodily harm. He appeared before Fond du Lac County Circuit Court Judge Richard Nuss and received a $500,000 cash bond. The charge carries a maximum penalty of 40 years in prison and a $100,000 fine. Police say couple was in the process of trying to adopt the child

A Pueblo man and woman who were in the process of trying to adopt a child are now facing criminal charges in connection with that child’s abuse. Police were called to the hospital Thursday afternoon after a child was brought in with injuries after reportedly falling down the stairs. The child was unresponsive. An emergency room doctor told officers the 2-year-old girl was suffering from a brain bleed and had injuries to her face and eyes. She also had bruises on her buttocks. A new lawsuit claims a special needs child was bullied so brutally by other children at scandal-plagued Miramonte Elementary School that he had to have one of his testicles removed, the boy’s mother said Monday. The lawsuit comes a week after the principal at Miramonte described progress on campus since the child abuse allegations of 2012, the same year the boy’s mother said his abuse started. A married mom accused of helping her white supremacist husband dump their teenage babysitter’s body in the woods after a night of sex and drugs led to the girl’s overdose death, has been sentenced today to up to five years in jail. Dea Millerberg, 41, was sentenced on Thursday in Ogden, Utah after she pleaded guilty in June to three felonies, including desecration of a human body. She agreed to a plea deal after testifying against her husband, 38-year-old Eric Millerberg over the murder of 16-year-old Alexis Rasmussen.  Millerberg, a mother of two young daughters, sobbed hysterically in court on Thursday and turned to apologize to Miss Rasmussen’s mother, Dawn Miera, who had come to watch her be sent to jail. Mother charged with child endangerment for allowing a man to sleep with her daughter, 11, and get her pregnant

An Iowa mother was arrested on child endangerment charges after it was discovered that her 12-year-old daughter became pregnant after being allowed to sleep with a grown man. The 37-year-old woman from Newton was taken into custody Friday following an investigation that revealed that the mother did nothing to stop 24-year-old Jacob White, a family friend, from sharing her then-11-year-old daughter’s bed. MailOnline is not releasing the woman’s name to protect the identity of her daughter due to the nature of the crime.  READ MORE HERE

FARMINGTON, UTAH — A two-day jury trial for a convicted sex offender has been canceled following a a guilty plea. Gary Ellis Hamblin, 48, of Layton, entered a guilty plea to one count of attempted sodomy on a child, a first-degree felony. A 10-month-old baby had injuries from his head to his feet, including burns covering his body which would have caused extreme pain, before he was rushed lifeless into a remote WA roadhouse, a Supreme Court murder trial has been told this morning. Opening the State case against Mervyn Kenneth Douglas Bell, prosecutor Amanda Forrester said the exact cause of the baby boy’s death could not be determined, but he had a broken arm and leg and burns on his feet, legs and body. The boy also had severe injuries to his genitals and anus. MOULTRIE — A man who is thought to have fathered up to eight children with his daughter pleaded guilty this week to two counts of incest. Ruben Fernando-Lopez, 42, is scheduled for sentencing on Sept. 30. He could receive a minimum of 20 years or up to 60 years in prison, as each count carries a 10- to 30-year sentence. Law enforcement began investigating Fernando-Lopez after his daughter gave birth in Albany to a premature child who was born on June 12. A Colorado woman appeared in court on Monday for the first time after being charged with abusing her 7-year-old daughter who suffered from seizures and was unable to walk or speak when found living amid squalor, prosecutors said. Leah Dyer, 47, of Fort Collins is charged with one count of felony child abuse resulting in serious bodily injury, said Linda Jensen, spokeswoman for the Larimer County District Attorney’s Office. Her husband, Douglas Dyer, 44, faces the same charge. COTTONWOOD HEIGHTS — A man was charged with second-degree felony child abuse after police say he hit his 5-year-old daughter. Michael Shaun Hall, 27, allegedly beat his daughter after she fed the family dog with food from the dinner table, according to Sgt. Corbett Ford of the Cottonwood Heights Police Department. The 5-year-old didn’t like what she was eating and when Hall stepped away from the table, she fed her food to the dog, Ford said. “Instead of disciplining, he takes it further and uses a belt and apparently a hanger, which caused substantial bruising and injury to her,” Ford said. Washington – A child molester who was raped while held in the Garfield County Jail in Pomeroy is suing the county. The complaint filed Tuesday in Walla Walla Superior Court says the man suffers anxiety and nightmares. He’s seeking an amount of money that would be determined at a trial in the civil rights lawsuit. The Union-Bulletin reports the man was jailed in August 2011 for investigation of child rape when he was raped three times by cellmate John Markwell.
