Bartow, FL – Marcus Brown, 29, of Lakeland, shook his head as the judge read back the charges he faces – Aggravated Child Abuse and First Degree Murder – in the death of his stepson.

The state says Deondray Ashe, 2, died after Brown beat him with a belt, nearly 30 times, on Sunday. What’s worse, there may have been a red flag two months earlier when DCF first received a report of possible child abuse from the Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Ashe had two fractured ribs then.

TROY — The injuries that killed 3-year-old Zoey Sandercox a year ago could have been no accident in the course of childhood play, the doctor who performed the toddler’s autopsy testified Thursday.

Only another child bent on causing serious harm or death could have inflicted the internal injures that led to the girl’s death on June 6, 2009, medical examiner Michael Sikirica testified.

Jefferson County, AL- Officers were called last Thursday night by the club owner of a topless bar named Wesley’s Boobie Trap. The owner had been told by a customer that the child had been left in a car outside the club. The owner went out to investigate and found a 2-year old boy screaming and crying in the car seat inside a 2004 Pontiac Vibe.

SURPRISE, Ariz. – Police received a phone call from an 11-year-old boy who informed them that his mother was packing to go to California to be a stripper, and that she was not taking him or his 6-year-old brother with her. When police arrived the boy’s mother, 29-year-old Christina Muniz, came outside and informed them that she was “sick of her children” and wanted the police to take them so she can “have fun and play.”

PLYMOUTH, Minn. – This post is gonna make some of you a bit nauseous. During a 2009 child porn investigation, police stumbled upon 26-year-old Shawn Godfrey who was sharing child porn over the internet. After acquiring a search warrant, police entered the home of Godfrey’s parents where he lived and confiscated a computer in the basement, a computer Godfrey admitted was loaded with child porn.

SALEM — A former Lynn Pop Warner coach who admitted to raping a teenage boy beginning at age 13 at the coach’s Wyman Street home was placed on probation for the next 10 years.

Martin MacKenzie, 40, currently of 78 Clarendon St., Lynn, was about to go on trial on a charge of statutory rape, but instead worked out a deal and pleaded guilty Monday afternoon in Salem Superior Court to a charge of statutory rape of a child.

FLOYD — A 27-year-old Floyd man pleaded guilty Tuesday to raping a child in an apparent attempt to get back at the child’s father.

Joshua Lantz Cromer was charged with rape, malicious wounding, aggravated sexual battery and object sexual penetration after an incident involving a 7-year-old girl Feb. 15.

BLOUNTVILLE — The adult son of a Kingsport bondsman accused of child rape testified in Blountville on Tuesday that he never saw his father engaged in any sex acts with the alleged victim and denied telling investigators that he had.

James David Thompson, last known address 201 Woods Edge Drive, Kingsport, is set for trial in November for an alleged rape of female relative when she was 12. The incident is alleged to have occurred between January 1997 and January 1998. Thompson was arrested on Jan. 21, 2009. At that time, he was a bail bondsman for Bad Boyz Bonding Co.

According to Lawrence Police Sgt. Susan Hadl, police were dispatched to a Lawrence residence about 5 p.m. after a family member of the suspect found a DVD that appeared to have child porn on it. Hadl said that after an extensive investigation, police determined the suspect, a 29-year-old Lawrence man, was responsible for inappropriate acts with children. The man was then located and arrested.

The names of these  792 maybe/maybe-not abusers can remain on the California Child Abuse Central Index for 10 years, and the list can be seen by employers, schools, local police departments, adoption agencies, etc.

An 11-week investigation by the Covington Police Department ended with the arrest of two individuals for child abuse in a case involving a 3-month-old infant.

Facing felony charges for cruelty are Justin D. Baham, 26, 2015 Pine Crest Ave. Apt. 1122, Covington and Victoria Bateman, 21, same address. If convicted, the maximum sentence would be 10 years in prison.

A young mother and her boyfriend were arrested and charged Saturday with the physical abuse of a 19-month-old child.

Ashley Schumm, 24, of Prattville, and her boyfriend G.W. Stubbs, 20, of Eclectic, were charged with aggravated child abuse for the “torture, willful abuse of a child under 18,” according to Chief Deputy Ricky Lowery of the Elmore County Sheriff’s Department.

The victim was “just a little baby,” Sheriff’s Department Investigator Jeremy Amerson said. “There was bruising on (the child’s) face, chest, back, pretty much everywhere except (the child’s) legs.”
