RIVERSIDE — California Youth Authority’s oldest inmate, 38 year-old Donald Schmidt, is set to be released from custody 23 year after being convicted in the rape and murder of a 3-year old girl.
Schmidt, who sodomized a 3-year-old girl and drowned her in her own bathtub, was set to be paroled in Riverside County.

MANATEE COUNTY — A 61-year-old Manatee County man has been arrested on almost 20 sex charges after authorities say he raped two young girls over several years.
The man, Earl J. Moulton II, was arrested Tuesday afternoon and accused of sexually abusing 5- and 12-year-old relatives, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.

SALEM – A Hopkinton man who allegedly raped, molested and provided pornography to two Marblehead children beginning in 1998 has been indicted by an Essex County grand jury.
Jeffrey C. Benger, 35, of 12 Wildlife Road, stands charged with two counts of rape of a child with force, five counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under the age of 14 as well as three counts of dissemination of pornography.

LONDON (AFP) – A British court on Friday jailed one of the country’s most notorious murderers, who killed a two-year-old toddler when he was aged just 10, for downloading and distributing indecent images of children.
Jon Venables, now 27, pleaded guilty to three charges in relation to child pornography at the Old Bailey court in London, appearing by video link from jail where he has been held since being recalled in February.

PORTLAND, Ore. – A federal court jury in Portland has convicted a long-haul trucker of aggravated sexual abuse for assaults on an 8-year-old girl during a coast-to-coast trip.
Jurors were told the girl’s mother asked 36-year-old Alexander Lukashov Jr. of Portland to take the child and her little brother on his cross-country haul so that he could drop the boy with relatives in Montana. Prosecutors say the man repeatedly molested the girl after dropping the boy off.
Every parent has given their child cough syrup or antibiotics — nothing wrong with that. But what about giving kids medicine that they don’t really need?
Some parents will admit to giving kids over-the-counter or prescription medications just to shut them up — and this can have serious (if unintended) consequences, the author of new research told CNN.

Tucson, AZ – Richard Wilson, an adjunct instructor for the Biology department at Wayland Baptist University, was recently arrested and charged with child molestation and sexual exploitation of a minor after he allegedly offered a 12-year-old girl “a large sum of money” to allow him to take pictures of her. Police say Wilson approached the girl in a McDonald’s parking lot Monday evening and made his offer.

Michael Klymman, who nearly 22 years ago was violently shaken as a baby and suffered permanent brain and physical disabilities as a result of the abuse, died Monday.
Michael, 22, was surrounded by his family at Renown Regional Medical Center, who joined together in prayer after he was taken off of life support. He had suffered from heart failure during the weekend, which caused a stroke.

SAN ANGELO, Texas — The 17-year-old case of Baby Jane Doe is no longer a murder mystery.
Lisa Marie Huro-LeClair, after denying the child and any involvement in the case, acknowledged recently she left her infant’s dead body along a north McCulloch County road in 1993.

After being charged with manslaughter for the death of her only child, bail was set at $21,000 for Raisa Bernabe at her first court appearance Friday.
Bernabe, 44, of Parkland, was ordered by Broward Magistrate Judge John “Jay” Hurley to surrender an expired passport and is not allowed to travel beyond South Florida.

NEWPORT NEWS — Police charged a 22-year-old Newport News man Thursday with murder in the death of a 1-year-old boy.
Darius Orlando Brown, of the 100 block of Tyler Avenue, is charged with murder and four counts of malicious assault, according to police. The toddler was found dead Tuesday in a basement-level apartment on Aqua Vista Drive. Brown, who is the child’s mother’s boyfriend, was taking care of him while she was at work.
