THE worry of  ‘stranger danger’ used to be enough to keep parents awake at night.

Thanks largely to a ‘don’t accept sweets’ advertising campaign, mums and dads would be left with nagging fears that one day their child could be snatched after innocently talking to a stranger in the street.

Nowadays strangers don’t need sweets. At the click of a button they can make contact with children in their own bedrooms and even through their mobile phones.

Although the internet is an invaluable communication tool, the sad fact is that it is exposing millions of children across the world to danger from online predators.

Childhood trauma stays with you forever

SAN DIEGO – Growing up in a troubled home can cut your life short or lead to a host of health problems later on, according to studies presented over the weekend at the American Psychological Association meeting.

In several major presentations, researchers outlined evidence that weathering difficulties as a child can set your health on the wrong course decades later.

“Our latest research shows that those reporting multiple adversities could shorten their life span by seven to 15 years,” says Janice Kiecolt-Glaser, a health psychologist at the Ohio State University College of Medicine. “What we have is clear evidence that adverse childhood experience may have lasting, measurable consequences.”

Volberding, Richard.JPG

Richard Volberding‘s water heater wasn’t working last February. So he called Daniel Johnson and Mark Owens to fix the thing. Problem for Volberding was that the guys had to walk past his computer to get to the circuit box — and Volberding didn’t bother closing photos of naked children in sexually suggestive poses on his computer screen. The repairmen saw ’em, figured out an excuse to leave the Volberding’s home and turned him in.
