An Indiana woman and her fiance have been charged with 16 felonies for severe abuse allegations detailed by her 14-year-old son, who was being questioned by police after running away from home. Tina Louise Graham, 40, and Vernon Widner, 55, stand accused of physically abusing the teen for more than two years, ABC 7 reports. The boy told police he was beaten with a horsewhip and belt, threatened with knives and a gun and locked in a dog cage on multiple occasions.

In 2008, World Vision and other groups worked with Congress to pass an important piece of legislation that protects a basic human value. The law prohibits our government from funding militaries that use children. Unfortunately, it also allowed some loopholes, and for the second year in a row, the Obama Administration has used that opportunity to continue funding militaries using child soldiers. The State Department’s 2011 Trafficking in Persons Report finds that six countries use children in their national militaries. Yet, the US currently gives aid to five of those six countries. In October, the administration offered a partial waiver to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and a full waiver to Yemen.

Students Cope With Classmate’s Suicide; Other In Critical Condition

LAS VEGAS — Grief counselors were sent to the schools of two teens who shot themselves Wednesday in unrelated attempted suicides. A 13-year-old girl remains in critical condition, but 10-year-old Kameron Asgari died. Asgari’s classmates at Jydstrup Elementary met with counselors to help them come to grips with what happened. Asgari was well liked and had many friends. Grief counselors say the students are now coping with the loss.

Gang Member Gets 155-Yr Sentence for Killing 16-YO Girl

LONG BEACH, CA — A gang member was sentenced Monday to 155 years to life in prison in the shooting death of 16-year-old honor student Melody Ross. Ross was shot and killed while attending the Long Beach Wilson High School homecoming game on October 30, 2009. 18-year-old Tom Love Vinson was found guilty of two counts of attempted murder and one count of attempted voluntary manslaughter.

14-MO Baby Admitted Into ER With Traumatic Head Injuries

The Columbia Falls Police Department investigated a report of suspected child abuse Saturday evening, with a 14-month-old child in a hospital emergency room with a traumatic head injury. A worker with Child Protective Services reported the suspected abuse and told police the child could have a brain bleed and has numerous bruises.

Madaline Grace Reynolds needed medicine to treat her cystic fibrosis, but her parents seemed more interested in getting their own prescriptions filled, a tipster told a Kentucky child-protection worker in November 2008. Madaline’s parents always picked up their own pills, including pain pills, but sometimes went months without getting medicine needed by the 20-month-old Lincoln County toddler, according to a state report.  READ MORE HERE

 

Evangelical Pastors Arrested on Child Sex Charges

Four arrests of Christian pastors in one week on charges of sexual abuse of minors.

An Evangelical church pastor was arrested on December 17 near Orlando FL on five counts of sexual battery on a child. Arnold Mathis (40) remains in custody at a Polk County facility after being arrested at his home in Winterhaven. The alleged perpetrator of the crimes is scheduled to appear before a local court later this week, having now secured a court-appointed defense attorney.

FREDERICKSBURG, Ohio—Members of a close knit Amish community gathered Saturday night to mourn the death of a 15-year-old girl, who was shot to death under circumstances that are shrouded in mystery. David Zuercher, a friend of the family of 15-year-old Rachel Yoder, told Fox 8 News, “Just total disbelief and shock. I just couldn’t believe it. I thought it was a joke, that it was not so.”

Panhandling Mom Charged With Child Abuse

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — A St. Petersburg woman has been arrested after her toddler reportedly wandered into traffic while she was panhandling. The St. Petersburg Times reports Bridgette Patricia Baldyga was arrested Thursday and charged with child abuse and possession of a controlled substance.

Giants Linebacker, Michael Boley, Investigated for Child Abuse

Giants linebacker Michael Boley is being investigated on accusations that he has abused his 5-year-old son, according to his lawyer.  The claims against Boley, a seven-year veteran of the N.F.L., stem from a contested child support case he has been involved in with the mother of the child. Boley’s Atlanta-based lawyer, Randall M. Kessler, said in a telephone interview Saturday that the accusations were initially raised in June but that the child’s mother opted not to enter them into the record during a child support trial. Marlon Iverzander Lopez is wanted in connection with allegations of continual sexual abuse of six children over a span of several years, beginning in approximately 1997. A state arrest warrant was initially issued on September 28, 2002, by the Riverside Superior Court in California after Lopez was charged with 30 counts of lewd or lascivious acts with a child. He was located and arrested on March 12, 2005; however, after posting bond, Lopez failed to appear for subsequent court dates. A second arrest warrant was issued in Riverside Superior Court on August 15, 2005. Lopez was charged federally with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution and a warrant for his arrest was issued by the United States District Court, Central District of California, on July 17, 2006.  READ MORE HERE

OKLAHOMA CITY — An Oklahoma prosecutor said Friday he “fully expects” more young victims to emerge in the case of a former third-grade teacher accused of making child pornography involving her students and sharing it online with a retired college professor in Pennsylvania. Former McLoud school teacher Kimberly Ann Crain, 48, and retired Pennsylvania professor of early childhood development Gary Doby, 65, were charged Thursday in the case in which prosecutors allege Crain took photographs of as many as 14 young girls while they were changing in her classroom and at her home and shared them with Doby.
