After years of being free on bail, a former principal from a Montessori school is now sentenced to spend up to seven years behind bars for her nearly-decade-long affair with one of her students. Lina Sinha, now 46, was told off by a New York judge during a court hearing today as she turned herself in to spend between 28-months and seven years behind bars. The relationship dates back to 1995, when Sinha was a principal at the Montessori International School in Manhattan and she began a romantic affair with one of her 13-year-old students. STATE COLLEGE, Penn. — Saying it is “a stark wake-up call to everyone involved in college sports,” the National Collegiate Athletic Association announced a $60 million fine against Penn State University on Monday and took away 14 seasons of football victories from the late Joe Paterno. The school was also banned from the postseason for four years and will lose 20 football scholarships a year for four seasons, NCAA President Mark Emmert said. A 56-year-old man West Virginia man has been jailed after allegedly fathering three grandchildren with his daughter over a 13 year period. Police in Charleston, West Virginia, arrested Charles Shamblin Jr. on charges of second-degree sexual assault, incest and sexual abuse by a parent or guardian. According to the Daily Mail, the alleged abuse began when the girl was seven years old and continued until she was 20. The Charleston police report that Shamblin’s daughter gave birth to three of her father’s grandchildren.  READ MORE HERE

Derek Cooper was just 2 years old when his father, Brandon Fraley, put his hands over the crying toddler’s mouth “until the child was silent,” according to a state file on the case. “The love and laughter that once surrounded our family has disappeared and in its place a heavy fog of despair has settled,” Jessica Wall, the boy’s mother, wrote in a victim impact statement when Fraley was sentenced to 10 years in prison. According to the social services case file on Derek, which the Lexington Herald-Leader obtained through a court order, there was a previous allegation of domestic violence by Fraley in 2006 that was unsubstantiated by social workers. A statue honoring Penn State football head coach Joe Paterno has been torn down as the university bows to massive public outcry. Penn State ordered the removal of the statue of Hall of Fame coach early on Sunday morning. Workers lifted the statue off its base and used a forklift to move it into Beaver Stadium early Saturday as the 100 to 150 students watching chanted, ‘We are Penn State.’  READ MORE HERE

Freeman Burton, 37, from Pleasanton, California, shot her 13-year-old daughter, Ainsley, and then shot herself on May 7th. According to NBC News, the Pleasanton Police Department concluded that the shooting was a murder-suicide.  READ MORE HERE

Man faces 50 years-to-life sentence for child abuse

HANFORD — Jurors found a Hanford man guilty on Friday of continuously sexually abusing his stepdaughter since she was 7 years old. Alfredo Provencio, 43, now faces a likely 50 years-to-life sentence when he returns to court on Aug. 17. DECATUR, Alabama — A Decatur woman was arrested Friday night for allegedly abusing her four-month-old child. Latonia Renea Stinnett, 22, of 4353 Old Moulton Road, is charged with one count of felony child abuse. She is being held in the Morgan County Jail on a $2,500 bond.  READ MORE HERE

SANTIAGO, Chile — Chile will investigate 61 schools in the country’s capital for possible child sex abuse, the attorney general said Friday in the latest government step to address a sharp rise in reports of such crimes. Attorney general Sabas Chahuan said his office will look at 49 schools in eastern Santiago and 12 on city’s west side. Michael E. Tringelof, 43, of Cincinnati, Ohio, is being charged for the kidnapping and torture of children between ages 5-10, which occurred between 1998 and 2002. According to UPI.com, the victims of these crimes have come forward since Tringelof was indicted in 2005 for a kidnapping charge involving a 9-year-old boy.  READ MORE HERE

Stepmother held girl, 6, upside down by ankles and banged her head repeatedly on the ground to kill her

A mother has been sentenced to life in prison with an additional 25 years on top after she was found guilty of the death of her six-year-old stepdaughter and the abuse of her stepson.
