Pelham, Alabama — Pelham police on Friday arrested a Columbiana man on felony charges of first-degree rape and sexual abuse of a child younger than 12 years old. Brandon Lee Brown, 30, who lists an address on Harris Road in court documents, remains in the Shelby County Detention Center in Columbiana today on bonds totaling $90,000 for the two charges. Thousands of pedophiles are feared to be evading justice as police refer less than half of all reported child sex abuse cases to prosecutors. Although 18,915 child sexual offences were reported to police last year, just 9,381 went further in the legal system, according to figures unveiled by Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper. The number of reported offences has risen since 2010/11, however the Labour MP revealed there had been a drop in the number of abuse cases passed on to the Crown Prosecution Service, which decides whether to charge alleged offenders. A former Los Angeles elementary school teacher charged with blindfolding students and spoon-feeding them cookies laced with his semen has agreed to plead no contest to all charges, an attorney for some of the victims said Thursday. Mark Berndt plans to enter the legal equivalent of guilty pleas to 23 charges at a hearing Friday, according to John Manly, an attorney who represents 30 Miramonte Elementary School students and their parents. BISMARCK, N.D. — A Bismarck woman faces a felony child abuse charge after authorities say her 2-year-old daughter tested positive for methamphetamine. An arrest warrant has been issued for 29-year-old Sarah Weiss. PRICE — Jail documents released Friday provide the first public glimpse into the rape and child sex abuse investigation that landed a Carbon County sheriff’s employee behind bars last month. John Gerald Shiew, 35, was arrested Oct. 30 by Price police and booked into the Emery County Jail for investigation of rape, aggravated sexual assault of a child, child abuse, enticing a minor, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and furnishing alcohol to a minor. A 9-year-old boy was shot in the face during a drive-by as he slept inside his Miami home Friday morning. “It’s a sad situation when a child can’t be a child, when at 3:00 in the morning a kid can’t sleep comfortably in his bed,” said Miami Police spokesman Delrish Moss. Investigators say a light-colored SUV drove down the 800 block of 55th Terrace in Liberty City and sprayed the house with bullets, Local10 reports.  READ MORE HERE

An Arizona father is accused of killing three members of his family before turning a gun on himself. Michael Sanders, 53, allegedly killed his 14-year-old daughter, his wife, and his wife’s brother on Tuesday, My Fox Phoenix reports. The three family members had gone to their house to pack up belongings due to a divorce that Sanders and his wife, Carol, were going through, police said. Father battles to rescue his two daughters who were ‘abducted by their mother and taken to Argentina three years ago’

A Colorado man is fighting to bring back his two daughters who he claims were abducted by his ex-wife to Argentina. Dennis Burns, of Snowmass, has spent the past three years missing out on the lives of his daughters, Sophia, 4, and Victoria, 7. His ex-wife, Ana Alianelli, took them from their home after a Colorado judge ordered that the children stay in the US after a bitter 13-month long custody battle following their divorce. A judge ordered their immediate return, but it was too late. A young mother battered her 11-month-old son to death after covering up months of abuse by pretending he was not her child, the Old Bailey heard today. Emma Wilson, 25, is accused of inflicting an ‘unsurvivable brain injury’ on her son Callum, who had also lost sight from a detached retina and had multiple fractures and bruising all over his body. The jury heard she used a false name for her son and claimed that she was looking after him for her cousin. Saginaw, MI – Kristie Flores, a 31-year-old Michigan woman, has been jailed after she allegedly had a 4-year-long sexual relationship with a girl under the age of 13. According to police, Flores sexually assaulted a girl under the age of 13 repeatedly from June 2009 until June of this year. According to the charging documents, at least three of the sexual encounters occurred while the child was under the age of 13 and involved penetration. DENVER, CO –  Every morning when the school bell rings, kids flood into classrooms thinking about the homework assignment they still need to complete or the test they have to ace. It’s not about the student sitting next to them, who may be a registered sex offender. FOX31 Denver asked the state of Colorado how many juveniles were on the state’s sex offender list. We were told the Colorado Bureau of Investigation doesn’t keep track of those numbers, so we went through hundreds of records and found a little more than 300 offenders, 17 and younger, who were required to register under state law. The registered teenage sex offenders have been convicted of crimes like rape, incest and sexual assault; the youngest on the list, five 12-year-olds.
