Tricia McKnight Says:
Dear Dreamcatchers: I just wanted to thank you for all that you do to help the children being hurt/killed/sexually assualted each day by those who are entrusted with their care. Recently my story was published and shared to help bring awareness to these horrific crimes. The biggest message I am trying to push forward is to the behavior that is “trained” in those left to live in this nightmare. We are left to believe that this cruelty is normal and it usually creates a path of ongoing acceptance of the violence against us. In my life there was never anyone in our small town that ever questioned the rotting girl that I was about her welfare. There was never anyone that questioned my parents about the filth eating away at their child. No one questioned the bruises, the fear, the constant neglect of homework and no one ever called the police to help out when they saw the beatings and rage from my stepfather. This was all a pattern of accepted behavior in our house. There was never any medical or dental care given, although we had excellent insurance. There was never anyone that stopped his sadistic sexual attacks against me, although my mother knew and admits to how sick and evil he was. In our house the supply of toilet paper was a luxury not a necessity; this was the “trained” behavior of my world and it kept me in that path to have more than 30 years of brutal sadistic attacks against me. This acceptance of a violent world invaded my children’s lives and although I finally broke free and have been in control of my world since November 1997; the scars move forward and the generational effects of abuse move forward as well. It is my desire to educate everyone to the severity of these crimes and the scars they leave behind. May your organization continue to bring that influence to others and help us all to better protect our children. Thank you so very much for all that you do.
Sincerely,
Patricia A. McKnight
