A newborn died after he was left in the care of his homeless, alcoholic mother by social workers, a damning report has revealed. Social workers from Southend Council found the 34-day-old baby dead on a sofa next to his mother, who had ‘consumed a large amount of alcohol the night before his death’, the review said.
