Child’s mother stabbed him when she witnessed the abuse

FLORIDA – A US Army staff sergeant has been found guilty of molesting a 10-year-old girl, whose mother stabbed him when she witnessed the abuse. Jason Lucas Revis, 33, of Oveido, Florida, was convicted of of lewd and lascivious molestation, after he made the girl touch him inappropriately in September 2011. Jurors deliberated for less than four hours before finding Revis guilty last night. He is set to be sentenced on Monday. A former volunteer firefighter already charged with arson faces new allegations that he lured children with toys, money and pornography and sexually assaulted them. Twenty-year-old John Corcoran IV of Glenolden, Pennsylvania, molested more than a dozen children over two years. The attacks took place at his home, as well as in the showers of a YMCA locker room, and on bonfires outside a local historical site, the Lower Swedish Cabin in Drexel Hill, Pennsylvania, authorities said. A Montana man has been sentenced to 200 years in prison after he impregnated his 11-year-old granddaughter and molested the girl’s younger sister. Mikeal Shane Pruett, 55, was arrested in June after the 11-year-old girl was told she was 32 weeks pregnant. The girl said she did not know she was pregnant because she “didn’t know what pregnant felt like.” She originally told doctors that she had sex with a 14-year-old boy at a county fair but when doctors noticed the dates didn’t match up, she told the truth. Wichita man charged with murder of 2-yo girl

WICHITA, Kansas — A two-year-old girl is dead and her mother’s boyfriend has been charged with her murder. Sly Maples, 33, appeared in Sedgwick County District Court Thursday afternoon where he was charged with first degree murder and child abuse. Shortly after 1 p.m. Tuesday, Maples and woman brought an unconscious two-year-old girl to Via Christi Hospital St. Joseph on East Harry. The child’s mother told staff that the girl had hit her head while playing on a slide at Linwood Park, located in the 1900 block of South Kansas. Hospital staff became concerned over injuries that didn’t match up to the story and called police. Police say she had unusual injuries to her head, bleeding on her brain and bruising around her neck. Some injuries appeared to have happened before the incident on the playground. READ MORE HERE

A Zanesville man charged with raping a child could face life in prison without parole if convicted. Richard Denney, Jr., 36, pleaded not guilty Wednesday morning to two counts of rape of a victim less than 10 years old, a first-degree felony that requires life in prison, and one count of gross sexual imposition, a third-degree felony. The alleged offenses are said to have occurred between April and December 2014, according to court documents. DENVER – A former human services caseworker was charged Thursday in connection to a fatal child abuse case. Rotchana Madera, 27, was charged with forgery, tampering with evidence and official misconduct. Madera was a caseworker for Denver Human Services. She’s accused of entering false information into the official case tracking system about her work on the Kelsy Newell-Skinner case. Details about what led up to the charges were not released. State Civil Statutes of Limitations in Child Sexual Abuse Cases

Statutes of Limitations (SOL) is the time in which a lawsuit is initiated by an injured person or victim. In most cases, unless there is a special circumstance, the SOL begins to run from the date of the occurrence that caused the injury. Statutes of limitations are enacted by the legislature, which might extend or reduce time limits, based on certain restrictions.

According to the National Center for Victims of Crime, nearly every state has a basic suspension of the statute of limitation (“tolling”) for civil actions while a person is a minor. Many states have also adopted additional extensions specifically for cases involving sexual abuse of children. Extensions for filing civil actions for child sexual abuse are most often based upon the discovery rule — by the time the victim discovers the sexual abuse or the relationship of the conduct to the injuries, the ordinary time limitation may have expired. This “delayed discovery” may be due to emotional and psychological trauma and is often accompanied by repression of the memory of abuse. Child victims frequently do not discover the relationship of their psychological injuries to the abuse until well into adulthood — usually during the course of psychological counseling or therapy. They may not even discover the fact of such abuse until they undergo such therapy.

Police say a man put his girlfriend’s 2-year-old toddler inside a running dryer.  Adam Morton, 27, was arrested after an investigation revealed the child was inside the dryer while it was running for a prolonged period.  Doctors looked at second-degree burns on the child’s body and concluded the injuries must have come from being put in the dryer while it was running. FBI warns ‘Virtual Kidnappings’ Are On the Rise

On Tuesday, the FBI and NYPD released statements warning the public about the increased number in cases of ‘virtual kidnapping’. New York seems to be the latest area for this virtual scheme that has been used by criminals all across the country. The FBI reports that hundreds of New Yorkers have been victimized by this latest scam.

The virtual kidnapping scam has about four different versions that are used by con artists. The most common version involves a random person, receiving a call from a scammer, who will claim to be holding one of their relative for ransom. The con artist will usually demand a ransom between $600 – $900. The caller gives specific instructions where to wire the payment, which usually ends up in an account in Puerto Rico. Occasionally, they will call back and claim not to have received payment and demand more money. The callers usually call from one of the following zip codes: 787, 939 or 853. Newborn baby dies after mother ‘douses it in flammable liquid and sets it on fire in the middle of a road’

A newborn baby has died after its mother allegedly doused it in a flammable liquid, set it alight and left it burning in a road. Witnesses say 22-year-old Hyphernkemberly Dorvilier got out of her car and stopped in the middle of Simontown Road in Pemberton Township, New Jersey, on Friday night and burned the child alive. Medics rushed to the scene and airlifted the young child, which was still alive and breathing when they arrived, to St Christopher’s Hospital in Philadelphia with severe burns. SCHILLER PARK, Illinois — Bond has been set at $1.5 million for a suburban mother. Krystle El Khatib, 29, of Schiller Park, is charged with attempted murder for allegedly trying to murder her children with poisoned apple juice because she was angry with their father. According to prosecutors, El Khatib crushed up benzodiazepine pills, an anti-anxiety drug, into some apple juice, and forced her 9-year-old son and 4-year-old daughter to drink two glasses each. Mother’s fight to start child abuse registry gets lawmaker’s attention

A mom’s fight to have Michigan create a child abuse registry has grabbed the attention of a state lawmaker. Erica Hammel’s 1-year-old was abused by her ex’s girlfriend who had a history of child abuse – but nobody knew. An online petition to create a child abuse registry called Wyatt’s Law has grown from a few hundred to nearly 6,000 signatures and got the attention of lawmakers. Meanwhile, Wyatt’s mom took her fight for change to the St. Clair Shores City Council.  Wyatt is the victim of abuse, trauma that doesn’t allow him to eat solid food or speak. So his mom, Erica Hammel, has been speaking for him and telling his story to anyone who will listen. “There’s one true voice and it’s mine,” Hammel said. “I did this from the beginning, That’s my son, my story.” READ MORE HERE
