An Oklahoma mother faces serious charges after authorities say she sexually abused her children in the presence of other adults. Natalie Lynn Webb, 30, was arrested in Elk City, Okla., and charged with sexual abuse of children under 12, and child neglect. $1 million bond for Phoenix man who killed son with ax

PHOENIX – A 51-year-old Phoenix man remains jailed on a first-degree murder charge in the ax killing of his 13-year-old son. Gary Reagan Sherrill is being held in lieu of $1 million bond. That’s a result of his appearance before a judge Wednesday after being arrested on New Year’s Eve. Police discovered the boy dead after going to Sherrill’s home in response to a check-welfare request by Sherrill’s ex-wife, the boy’s mother. Pornography is shown to sex trafficking victims to train them in what they will have to perform/endure. Since they are not able to choose what they do, they will have to do whatever the client wants. Often, the client wants to perform sex acts they’ve seen in porn. They themselves have been educated by porn. Therefore, the victim will need to know how to execute various scenarios satisfactorily.

Forcing sex trafficking victims to watch porn also desensitizes them to the violence and humiliation. They see it happening and become used to it. It initiates them and lessens the outward emotional trauma.

Repeated and sustained viewing of pornography alters the way viewers think about sex and the presence of violence, even if the viewer will be on the receiving end. Dr. Mary Anne Layden of the Sexual Trauma and Psychopathology Program at the University of Pennsylvania explains pornography is “a permission-giver for, and a trigger of many negative behaviors and attitudes that can severely damage not only the users but many others.” Sex traffickers understand the cognitive power of pornography to change the brain to accept porn life as real life. They use this reality against their trafficked victims. By forcing them to watch porn, traffickers force victims to normalize the abuse perpetrated against them.

Reward issued for Tampa man in sex assault of minor

TAMPA — A $5,000 reward has been issued for a Tampa man wanted for the sexual assault of a minor. Christopher L. Jones, 37, is registered as a violent sex offender in the state of Florida and is required to wear an electronic GPS on his ankle. Police said Jones cut off his ankle monitoring system before fleeing to avoid being arrested on charges of sexual battery to a minor under the age of 12 and lewd and lascivious molestation of a family member. Buffalo resident Alex Mercado has been arrested and charged after shaking his three month old baby so viciously that the child went blind. Buffalo, New York police say Mercado’s shaking caused bleeding around his son’s brain, bruising on his ribs, substantial pain, and blindness. Mercado is now being charged with reckless assault on a child and second degree assault. The child’s mother is also listed on the police report, but she has not been charged with any offenses. Execution set for Florida killer whose case altered sex predator law

ORLANDO, Florida – Florida Governor Rick Scott has signed a death warrant for a man who raped and murdered a Miami-area boy in 1995, in a case that triggered changes in U.S. laws on violent sexual predators. The execution of Juan Carlos Chavez, 46, who admitted to the kidnap, rape and murder of 9-year-old Jimmy Ryce, is scheduled for the evening of February 12, according to the order signed by Scott on Thursday. Diocese’s bishop said all but three of 17 on the list have died

The diocese of Duluth Tuesday added 17 names to the public roster of Catholic priests who have been credibly accused of molesting children in Minnesota. The priests served in parishes across northeastern Minnesota, from Brainerd to Grand Rapids to North Shore tourist towns such as Grand Marais. They held positions ranging from school superintendents to Scouting director to church pastor. None of the priests is in active ministry, according to the diocese, and all but three are dead. A concerned citizen was able to use social media on Tuesday to draw law enforcement attention to a potential child abuse case. The resident found a video on someone else’s Facebook page that showed a man allegedly physically abusing his 4-month-old child. Coeur d’Alene Police Sgt. Christie Wood told The Press Tuesday that the video was then posted to the department’s Facebook page by the resident at 8:30 am. READ MORE HERE

The effects of childhood sexual and physical abuse last a lifetime. Abused children may grow up to be adults prone to depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and other psychiatric disorders. They are more prone to suicide. However, in recent years we have learned that abuse does more than wound self-esteem and break the spirit. It can damage the very substance of the brain and how it functions. A major way by which childhood abuse can disrupt normal brain activity is by diminishing its capacity to handle stress. Stress is more than the worry and distress we experience when the circumstances of life push us beyond our limits. The body’s response to stress is a complex biological mechanism. When the brain senses that the body is being taxed beyond its usual capacity, it initiates the stress response by releasing a substance called corticotrophin releasing hormone, or CRH. CRH stimulates the pituitary gland to release ACTH that, in turn, triggers the release of the stress hormone, cortisol, from the adrenal glands. Cortisol marshals the body’s resources to provide the extra energy and endurance to meet the demands being placed upon it. Once, this might have been escaping an angry mastodon. A California man gunned down his wife and two of her children in their home on Monday night before turning the gun on himself in what police believe was a murder-suicide. Stepfather Ramon Miranda, 38, apparently shot and killed 34-year-old Silvia Miranda and her children, 12-year-old Ramon Jr. and 10-year-old Rayna, the San Bernardino County coroner’s office confirmed on Wednesday. Neighbors reported hearing the Fontana, California family arguing before the violence broke out.
