AVON PARK — An Avon Park man remained in Highlands County Jail in lieu of $100,000 bond Thursday after Highlands County Sheriff’s investigators accused him of abusing his children with a stun gun. While social media has been a useful tool for connecting with lost relatives, one Philadelphia software salesman used a missing child website to stumble across his own past. As reported by CBS News earlier this week, a Philadelphia man named Steve Carter discovered his own baby picture on a site designed to help reunite missing children with their parents. Camden, SC – On Sunday the Camden community came together to support a 4-year-old Kershaw County girl who was hospitalized due to what deputies say is abuse. It’s been one week since two adults were arrested and charged with abusing the child, so much so, she suffered two broken arms and one leg. Despite promises of transparency by Gov. Steve Beshear, state officials are refusing to release child-protection records about a man who was convicted of beating his 3-month-old son prior to the mysterious deaths of his two infant daughters. The Cabinet for Health and Family Services won’t release records about Jesse Allison, who is charged in Caldwell County, in Western Kentucky, with murder in the 2009 asphyxiation death of his 7-monthold daughter Ariel. SAN DIEGO– Police arrested a San Diego man on Saturday after he said “voices in his head” told him to slice the arms of his 8-year-old son. Sexual abuse is one form of child abuse. It includes a wide range of actions between a child and an adult or older child. Often these involve body contact, but not always. Exposing one’s genitals to children or pressuring them for sex is sexual abuse. Using a child for pornography is also sexual abuse. Most sexual abusers know the child they abuse. They may be family friends, neighbors or babysitters. About one-third of abusers are related to the child. Most abusers are men. A man who had such a horrible childhood that he was invited to the White House as a symbol of young victims will now go to prison for trying to kill a 10-year-old girl. Adam Croote, 23, of Albany, New York, was sentenced on Friday to at least 25 years behind bars for raping and choking the girl he had been babysitting. Video reveals teen’s electro-shock torture at Massachusetts school
A video that a school in Massachusetts has fought in court for years to keep under wraps was played in public for the first time this week, revealing the torture of a disabled boy through the use of repeated electric shocks. The Judge Rotenberg Center (JRC) in Caton, Massachusetts has for years been pushing back against allegations of flippant use of electric shocks and other abuses against its special-needs students, and it had managed to keep video central to a case brought by one former student’s mother under wraps. LONG BEACH– The body of a 9-year-old girl was found in Long Beach on Saturday. Police said a young girl was found dead with lacerations to her chest. A man with self-inflicted lacerations was transported to a nearby hospital. The two people involved were a parent and a child, police said. They were believed to be residents of Long Beach. Mom charged with murder in son’s drowning
ONAWA, Iowa — A western Iowa woman accused of drowning her 15-month-old son has been formally charged with first-degree murder. The Monona County Attorney’s Office filed the charge against Ashley Cameron, 24, of Onawa on Thursday. She is scheduled to be arraigned May 14. READ MORE HERE
