BEIJING — Chinese police arrested 802 people on suspicion of child trafficking and rescued 181 children in a major operation spanning 15 provinces, the Chinese Ministry of Public Security said Friday. The recent operation broke up two trafficking rings and led to the arrests of the ring leaders, the ministry said in a statement posted on its website. Trafficking in children is a big problem in China. Its strict one-child policy – which limits most urban couples to one child and rural couples to two if their first-born is a girl – has driven a thriving market in babies, especially boys because of a traditional preference for male heirs.  READ MORE HERE

Pedophile was already on parole for trying to infect children with HIV nearly 20 years ago

PORTLAND, Ore. – Oregon police said they arrested Adam Lee Brown at a Portland restaurant where he allegedly pulled a 10-year-old boy in the bathroom, attempted to sexually assault him and then stabbed him several times. Brown was already on parole for trying to infect children with HIV nearly 20 years ago. Officers said the boy would have died without immediate care. At least 316 children under 18 were recruited by militant outfits in 2011 to fight

The arrest of two children and a teenager with bombs and remote-controlled devices in Afganistan’s former Taliban stronghold of Kandahar has sparked fears that the militant outfit could be training more children as suicide bombers. The children were aged eight and 12 and the teenager was 17 years old, Xinhua reported citing Kandahar province spokesman Jawed Faisal. INGLEWOOD — A local pastor was charged Friday with nine felony counts of allegedly committing lewd acts on a child. Gordon Solomon, 50, allegedly met the 14-year-old girl two years ago at his church, Christ’s Community Church on Hindry Avenue in Inglewood. Sheriff’s investigators say Solomon “developed an affinity for the girl,” which involved exchanging emails and texts of a “sexual nature” and meeting at various locations. READ MORE HERE

BOWLING GREEN, KY — A Kentucky couple is being accused of leaving 19 children unattended for about a week in a sweltering home in Bowling Green. The children were found Monday when the Warren County sheriff’s office responded to a complaint. PARKCHESTER, NY — Police are investigating a double murder and attempted suicide after they found two children dead in an apartment in the Bronx. It happened around midnight Thursday at 1500 Noble Ave. Police responded to a gas leak on the 9th floor. A 2-year-old boy beaten for mispronouncing his sister’s name may lose an eye, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office. The child was treated early Wednesday at Winter Haven Hospital for extensive bruising of his face as well as numerous welts from being hit with a clothes hanger his back and buttocks, records state. BILLINGS, Montana — A 5-year-old boy is hospitalized in intensive care after being shot by an 8-year-old playmate. The children were playing together at a Billings dog park when their parents said the could go into an wilderness area near the park. HUNTINGTON BEACH — A 30-year old man was sentenced Friday to 65 years to life in state prison for kidnapping and sexually assaulting a developmentally disabled 7-year-old girl. Daniel Vlas Flores was convicted in April of kidnapping to commit a sexual offense, sexual intercourse, sodomy and sexual penetration of a child 10-years-old or younger, according to the Orange County district attorney’s office.  READ MORE HERE

SAN JOSE, Calif. — A man charged with beating a Roman Catholic priest that he says molested him has been found not guilty. The jury found William Lynch not guilty of felony assault and felony elder abuse, despite his admission that he attacked Father Jerold Lindner in 2010. A 6-day-old infant and a 22-month-old toddler were left alone, unsupervised, by their 18-year-old mother Courtney Trench and her boyfriend so the couple could enjoy a night of drinking. According to WSB Radio, officials report that the mother’s blood alcohol level was .198, which is three times the legal limit, while the boyfriend’s was tested at .223. MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A Memphis jury has found 17-year-old James Prindle guilty of raping a 23-month-old girl, taking all day Friday to convict him on all counts. Prosecutors claimed Prindle committed the disturbing act against the toddler while babysitting in Aug., 2010. Though just 15 at the time, he was later charged and indicted as an adult.  Prindle was accused of bathing the child after the attack, before running to a neighbor for help. 3 children, ages 7 to 9, found dead in Iowa River

MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa  – Autopsies say two siblings and a cousin died while swimming in central Iowa during a Fourth of July outing with family and friends. Marshalltown Police Chief Mike Tupper says 9-year-old Lee Meh, her 7-year-old brother, Sae Reh, and their 7-year-old cousin, Thay Mo, were found Wednesday night in the Iowa River. The children became separated from others while swimming in the river in Marshalltown, about 50 miles northeast of Des Moines. A South African real estate developer claims to have found the gravesite of Madeleine McCann. Self-styled investigator Stephen Birch says he used a ground penetrating radar device — a tool that that uses radar pulses to x-ray the subsurface — to locate the body of the missing British girl. McCann was 3 years old in May 2007, when she went on a trip to Portugal with her parents, Kate and Gerry McCann. The couple was dining with friends at a nearby restaurant when the little girl vanished from their holiday apartment in Praia da Luz.
