KEARNS, Utah – A 6th grade student brought an unloaded handgun to West Kearns Elementary School Monday. The 11-year-old boy allegedly told other students his parents encouraged him to bring a gun to school for protection following the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut on Friday. Authorities crack down on copycat threats after Newtown

Authorities are cracking down on a spate of threats against schools following Friday’s attack at an elementary school in Newtown, Conn., where a gunman killed 20 children and six adults before killing himself. In Indiana, police have responded to threats against three separate schools, making arrests in each case. They included a Bloomington South High School student who allegedly threatened a “copycat” school shooting; police removed six guns from his home, The AP reported. Two other teens, one in California, the other in Tennessee, who posted online that they would like to commit similar shootings were promptly arrested,  CNN reported. LONDON — The lead singer of British rock band Lostprophets appeared in court Wednesday charged with child sex offenses including conspiring with a woman to rape a 1-year-old girl. Prosecutors said Ian Watkins also is accused of conspiring to engage in sexual touching with two children; possessing, making and distributing indecent images; and possessing “extreme” animal pornography. A former Beaver leader and tennis coach appeared in court today accused of sexually assaulting a child during after-school activities. Jason Asthana, 32, appeared at a Crown Court hearing held at Brighton Magistrates’ Court accused of inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity and two counts of sex assault on a child under 13. Local Vigil Held for Sandy Hook Victims

A handbell rang out once after the name and age of each of the 26 people killed in Newtown, Conn., was read aloud on the steps of the North Side Elementary School in Lower Paxton Township on Sunday. About 60 people gathered in front of the school for a short candlelight vigil to pray for and remember victims of the shooting. Except for an occasional passing car, the only other sound was that of a child crying. No cellphones were ringing, no one talked. A single, uniformed township police officer stood by keeping watch. Man Unleashes Bullets Inside Theater At ‘The Hobbit’ Screening

A security guard’s heroics saved the nation from another tragedy. Jesus Garcia, 19, was hospitalized in San Antonio, TX after the alleged perpetrator fired shots inside of a Chinese restaurant where he used to work at. INDIANA — As the nation mourned the tragedy at the Sandy Hook Elementary School, an Indiana man made terrifying threats of violence toward an elementary school where his wife works.
