Matthew George Nielsen, a former assistant prosecutor with the Salt Lake County District Attorney’s Office, was arrested over the weekend on eight felony charges relating to domestic violence, child abuse and witness tampering. The arrest was the second for Nielsen in less than a month. Police say Nielsen assaulted a woman in the presence of his two children, both minors. Nielsen then allegedly assaulted the children and threatened to kill them if they called police.  READ MORE HERE

TULSA, Oklahoma -A Tulsa man and his wife were arrested Friday, charged with several counts of child abuse and permitting child abuse, respectively. Matthew Charles Oeth, 26, was charged with three counts of child abuse by injury. Tulsa County District Court documents show one count each of alleged abuse of three different children, ages 3, 4, and 6.  READ MORE HERE

Case Facts: John Dupire is serving a 10-year to 25-year sentence for the offenses of rape and gross sexual imposition (four counts). On February 7, 1994 a 36-year-old man entered a restaurant and saw John Dupire with a little boy. The man immediately recognized Dupire as the schoolteacher who raped him in a motel during a trip in 1969. The man then went to police and advised them Dupire had molested him. The victim stated he went to authorities because “I just saw that little boy. That could have been me.”

Two days later police began investigating Dupire who was an elementary school physical education teacher and also a soccer and reserve wrestling coach. Police interviewed more than 60 people. According to former Butler County prosecutor John Holcomb there was a pattern of abuse from 1969-1992. Almost all Dupire’s victims were between 10 and 12 years of age. He targeted single-parent boys and befriended both the boys and their mothers. He bought the boys Starter jackets, athletic shoes and took them on vacations and trips. British Child Bride Scandal

A Muslim cleric at the center of an illegal marriage scandal has stepped down after he allegedly offered to marry a 12-year-old girl to a man in his 20s. Imam Mohamed Kassamali is said to have told an undercover reporter posing as a father that he could carry out a ceremony for his school-aged daughter. He allegedly told the Sunday Times journalist: ‘If it (the marriage) was not possible, I would have told you straight away… I would love the girl to go to her husband’s houses (sic) as soon as possible, the younger the better.  READ MORE HERE

A man facing charges of raping a teenage girl two years ago murdered the 16-year-old last week so that she could not testify against him in his upcoming sexual assault trial, said police. Franklin Davis, 30, of Irving, Texas, confessed to shooting dead Shania Gray after he was arrested on unrelated driving offenses on Friday and police began questioning him about the girl’s death. A mother and father have been jailed for allegedly shackling their teenage son to a chair every night for six months. Virginia Smith, 63, and her husband Douglas Smith allegedly handcuffed the 17-year-old and used padlocked chains to pin him to a chair. A school worker has been jailed for 10 years for abusing two young girls and downloading more than 12,000 vile pornographic images after being shopped to police by his horrified wife. IT assistant Frederick Brookes, 62, plied his innocent victims – both under the age of 10 – with sweets and biscuits before indulging his sick fantasies. Brookes helped teach hundreds of children at a school in the New Forest, Hants. World Suicide Prevention Day

World Suicide Prevention Day on 10 September promotes worldwide commitment and action to prevent suicides. On average, almost 3000 people commit suicide daily. For every person who completes a suicide, 20 or more may attempt to end their lives. The sponsoring International Association for Suicide Prevention, the co-sponsor WHO and other partners advocate for the prevention of suicidal behavior, provision of adequate treatment and follow-up care for people who attempted suicide, as well as responsible reporting of suicides in the media.

At the global level, awareness needs to be raised that suicide is a major preventable cause of premature death. Governments need to develop policy frameworks for national suicide prevention strategies. At the local level, policy statements and research outcomes need to be translated into prevention programs and activities in communities.

LOUDON (Knoxville, TN) – The Loudon County Sheriff’s Office is asking for the public’s help to find a man who’s a child rape suspect. There’s a warrant for the arrest of Edward Underwood, Jr., 61, for allegedly raping a juvenile family member. Investigators say Underwood is 5’8″ and 165 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He may be driving a blue Chevrolet S-10 pickup truck with a white camper top. Dentist Allegedly Assaulted, Punched 4-YO Victim In Mouth

TALLAHASSEE —The Florida Department of Health’s State Surgeon General, Dr. John Armstrong, on Friday issued an Emergency Suspension Order (ESO) for Thomas P. Floyd, DMD, with the assistance and partnership of the West Palm Beach Police Department. The Florida Department said today that this will halt his ability to practice coinciding with his arrest pending charges of child abuse. Dr. Floyd was arrested this morning after an arrest warrant was obtained through the West Palm Beach Police Department. KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The first American bishop criminally charged in the clergy sex abuse scandal was found guilty Thursday of a misdemeanor count of failing to report suspected child abuse, a conviction that extends the struggle of Roman Catholic leaders to restore trust in the church. Bishop Robert Finn was acquitted on a second count. He received two years of probation, but that sentence was suspended and will be wiped from his record if he adheres to a set of conditions that include mandatory abuse reporting training, setting aside $10,000 in diocese money for abuse victim counseling, and instructing all diocesan agents to report suspected criminal activity involving minors.
