DAVIE – A teacher at an alternative education school in Davie has been arrested and charged with two counts of child abuse. Penn State announced Wednesday that it will host a national child sex-abuse conference this fall, the latest in a series of initiatives designed to raise awareness of the issue and help the university recover from a devastating molestation scandal. The gathering scheduled for Oct. 29-30 in State College will feature academic and clinical experts on childhood molestation and trauma, as well as remarks by retired boxing champ Sugar Ray Leonard and former kidnapping victim Elizabeth Smart, both of whom suffered sexual abuse.  READ MORE HERE

RIO VISTA – A 49-year-old Rio Vista man is accused of sexually abusing two children at his wife’s “Lots of Tots” daycare business. Don Elliot, 49, was arrested Wednesday following a multi-agency investigation into the alleged abuse at the facility on the 200 block of Tahoe Drive. Elliot was booked on suspicion of lewd act upon a child, attempted lewd act upon a child and felony child abuse, according to the Solano County Sheriff’s Office. Women Recruiting Young Girls to Ohio Sex Trade

CINCINNATI – A report released Wednesday paints a vivid picture of the shadowy world of sex trafficking in Ohio, from its recruiters and groomers to its customers and pimps. The report, released by the state Human Trafficking Commission and conducted over a three-year period, is based on interviews with 328 victims in Columbus, Cincinnati, Dayton, Cleveland and Toledo. Of those interviewed, 115 reported that they were forced into the trade when they were under 18, with 12 percent of them sold before they were even 12 years old. The vast majority of the girls forced into prostitution reported that they were recruited by women who were involved in the trade themselves or who at first acted like a friend, the report said.  READ MORE HERE

Prosecutors: Man bludgeoned niece with hand scythe

HILLSBORO, Ohio – Bond has been set for a man accused of killing a family member. Matthew Pierson, 18, is charged with murder in the death of Jada Beth Williams. The 5-year-old girl was found dead in a garage on Sunday. Williams is Pierson’s niece. Scott Bradley, 36, was accused of being child murderer Robert Thompson, whose real identity is protected, and suffered months of malicious abuse and torment from a hate mob in the village of Garlieston, Wigtownshire, in Scotland. Grand Island, NE – Michelle Almonte-De Jesus, a 27-year-old Nebraska woman has been charged with repeatedly having sex with her teenage step son. According to police, an investigation was launched when the father of a 16-year-old boy saw his wife having sex with the boy. Investigators say Almonte-De Jesus began having sex with the victim when he was 15-years-old and continued until he was 16-years-old. CUDAHY, CA — The extreme heat gripping the Southland put two small children in jeopardy — and their mother behind bars. Arely Amaya, 18, was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment after allegedly leaving her year-old son and 2-week-old daughter locked in a car while she went shopping along the 7900 block of Atlantic Avenue.
