16-YO Missing Honor Student’s Killer Arrested

BALTIMORE, MD — A Baltimore man has been indicted on a charge of first degree murder in the death of Phylicia Barnes, a North Carolina teen who disappeared in Baltimore in 2010, authorities said. Charges against Michael Johnson, the ex-boyfriend of the victim’s sister and the last known person to see Barnes alive on Dec. 28, 2010, were announced Thursday at a news conference. READ MORE HERE

WHY DIDN’T ANYONE SAVE HIM?

A ten-year-old boy’s brutal death at the hands of his stepfather could have been avoided after it was revealed the boy called 911 twice in the past year to report abuse. Abdifatah Mohamud, from Buffalo, New York, was found beaten to death in his family’s basement last week. He was bound, gagged and struck repeatedly with a rolling pin. Though the Buffalo Police Department is investigating how officers handled the calls, they did confirm they reported the allegations to Erie County Child Protective Services – who are accused of not doing enough to help the boy or remove him from the home.  READ MORE HERE

LITTLEROCK, Calif. — A teenager charged in the 2010 slashing death of his 11-year-old cousin and a knife attack on her 14-year-old sister was sentenced to prison Thursday. A judge sentenced Lonnie Lee Liner to 11 years, plus 15 years to life in accordance with a plea deal. READ MORE HERE

(WICHITA, Kan.)—A Haysville man will serve life plus 165 months in prison for raping his step-daughter, and setting her body on fire.  Chris Newberry was sentenced Thursday for attempted murder, arson and rape charges. A judge also ruled Newberry will not be eligible for parole until 2047. Newberry raped the 10-year-old girl and then set her on fire in 2009. Prosecutors say Newberry got his four year old daughter out of the room, he then poured lighter fluid on his step daughter and lit her on fire. A former Bengals linebacker, Nate Webster, 34, was convicted of unlawful sexual charges involving the teenage daughter of a Bengal’s assistant coach. According to ESPN, Webster had sexual contact with the teenage girl in 2009 when she was 15, and allegedly threatened to harm her if she told anyone. READ MORE HERE

A young girl was tortured by a school mate in a field near her house. A 15-year-old boy dragged an 8-year-old second grade student into a sugarcane field, gouged her left eye out of its socket, bit her neck, strangled and raped her then left her to crawl bloodied and bruised back home. Investigators still searching for Madeleine McCann, the British toddler who went missing from a Portuguese holiday rental home five years ago this week, say they believe the girl is still alive and they now have the “best opportunity” yet to solve the case. McCann was 3 years old when she vanished on vacation with her parents Kate and Gerry McCann and twin siblings in the Algarve region of Portugal. One of the most senior Buddhist monks in the UK is accused of a string of sexual assaults on two girls aged under 10, including raping one in his temple’s shrine room. The Venerable Pahalagama Somaratana, is charged with four counts of indecent assault and one of rape against a victim in Chiswick in the summer of 1978 and five counts of indecent assault against a second victim at the Croydon temple in the mid-80s.  READ MORE HERE

An accused child rapist who was arrested in Mexico after nearly a year on the run was returned Tuesday to Tulsa, authorities said. Phillip Steven Borden, now 42, is accused of molesting his girlfriend’s two daughters at his Tulsa home between 2002 and 2006, including raping one of them once and touching her multiple times over about three years, records show.  READ MORE HERE

Sexually explicit notes a family member found on a 12-year-old girl’s Facebook page led to the arrest of a 22-year-old Lansdale man on charges he had raped the girl, according to Lansdale Police Department. Lafonsa Perry of the 100 block of Penn Street allegedly began having sex with the girl when she was 11 years old, police said. An adult family member noticed “disturbing posts” of a sexual nature on the girl’s Facebook dating back to when she was 11 years old in January, police said. READ MORE HERE

SPARTANBURG CO, S.C. -An Upstate mother and her boyfriend are facing charges after an investigation by Spartanburg County deputies. Deputies said they were called to a Lil’ Cricket Food Store on March 6 about a possible child abuse case. When deputies arrived, a neighbor of a 15-year-old told them the teen had shown her marks and bruises she said her mother, Tina Marie Taylor-Thomas, and her mother’s boyfriend, Donnie Ray Bragg Jr., had given her. Shaqueta McDade was charged with 4 counts of negligent homicide on Sunday after four of her children burned to death in her Rayne, Louisiana trailer home. The children who perished in the fire were Jamari McDade, 8; Amous Mouton Jr., 7; LaShay McDade, 5, and Brian Steiner, 2.
