She wrote a “lengthy sales pitch” that included photographs of her son and daughter, both aged under 10, reports News.com.au. Several people placed bids on the sickening auction, which has alarmed authorities. A horrified member of the public alerted detectives from the Sexual Offences and Child Abuse unit to the Internet page.

Irish Priests Refuse To Reveal Confession Secrets

Posted by Sandra On July - 17 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

Irish Catholic priests have said that they will not reveal secrets given in confession even though new legislation by the Irish government will call for it. The new legislation will be introduced after another child abuse scandal in Cloyne, a Cork diocese came to light. As late as 2008, clerics accused of child abuse were being protected by the diocese the Murphy Inquiry found.

In 2007, approximately 3.2 million allegations of child abuse and neglect, representing 5.8 million children, were made to child protective services agencies. Of those, 2,085,443 reports were referred for investigation, as reported by 37 states. During FFY 2007, an estimated 794,000 children in the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico were determined to be victims of abuse or neglect. Of these children, 59.0% were neglected, 10.8% were physically abused, and 7.6% were sexually abused. The victimization rate was 10.6 per 1,000 children, representing a 12.4% decrease from 2006, which can be explained by definitional changes.

Hidden Epidemic Of Child Abuse

Posted by Sandra On July - 16 - 2011 ADD COMMENTS

A hidden history of child abuse may lie behind the myriad social problems that afflict Australia, from its high rate of depression to its high rate of homelessness. We are more aware, partly thanks to the wayward Catholic clergy, of the existence of child abuse. But that has not translated into an understanding of its pervasive and long-lasting legacy. In a room of 100 women, 12 or 13 on average would have experienced sexual abuse as a child; in a room of 100 men, at least four or five would be survivors of sexual abuse. These figures come from the 2005 Australian Bureau of Statistics personal safety survey, and some in the field consider them conservative.

The former leader of the paedophile pressure group Pie was jailed after becoming the first person to be convicted for making drawings of children being raped. The prosecution, under the 2009 Coroners and Justice Act, was described as a landmark case by Scotland Yard. Detectives found 3,000 drawings at Steven Freeman’s home, where he held weekly meetings to view and trade images of child abuse. The images were described at the Old Bailey as “vile and disgusting” and were amongst the worst seen by police, they said. Some 14,500 pictures and films were found on computer discs there and at the address of two of his paedophile ring. Detectives believe tens of thousands more were stored on encrypted computer hard-drives they have been unable to access.

Mark Christopher Nichols, 21, is being held in the Wagoner County jail. His bail has not been set. Maverick Nichols died of blunt force trauma of the head according to a preliminary finding from the state Medical Examiner’s Office, Wagoner County Assistant District Attorney Jack Thorp said. The child had skull fractures to the back of the head and a broken rib, the prosecutor said. Authorities believe they are “crushing” type injuries, not those associated with a short fall.

The Casey Anthony trial and the terrible story of the death and dismemberment of 8-year-old Leiby Kletsky in Brooklyn this week has captivated our nation like so many high profile cases in the past. While many might believe that cases like this will bring attention to the issue of protecting our children, at the end of the day these individual stories only highlight the tip of the iceberg.. The reality is that 150 children, most under the age of four, die every month from abuse or neglect. While high profile cases do bring awareness, they take our focus off the real issue of suffering children and instead keep us embroiled in speculation and legalities.

Child Rapist Allowed to Watch His Child Porn in Prison

TACOMA—A former pilot accused of sexually assaulting young boys and recording the abuse on tape is allowed to watch the video as much as he wants. How could this happen? The short answer is it is a loophole that allows Weldon Marc Gilbert, 47, to sit in the Pierce County Jail and watch child pornography that prosecutors say he shot himself. Gilbert is serving as his own lawyer, which allows him access to the evidence used against him. It is a legal technicality meant to ensure a defendant gets the best defense possible, but many say it is a loophole that needs to be closed.
