FOUNTAIN VALLEY, CA — A 43-year-old woman is accused of having sex with a 12-year-old friend of her son. Patricia Ann Serrano, of Fountain Valley, is charged with three felony counts of lewd acts on a child under 14. On two occasions in October 2011, the defendant is accused of having sex with the 12-year-old boy in her home and in a car.

Ellen DeGeneres is “devastated” by the recent suicide of a Rutgers University student who was outed on the Internet, and says that “something must be done” about teen bullying. “This needs to be a wakeup call to everyone that teenage bullying and teasing is an epidemic in this country and the death rate is climbing,” DeGeneres says in a video taped at her studio.

Michigan Senate passes ‘license to bully’ legislation

Advocates for a law to prohibit bullying and provide school districts with the tools to address the problem were dealt a stinging rebuke Wednesday morning in the Republican-controlled Michigan Senate. The GOP pushed through an amended bill, SB 137, which does nothing advocates have pushed for — including reporting requirements and enumeration, or listing, of protected classes. In addition, the legislation provides an exception which allows bullying based on “moral convictions.”

A 46-year-old German Catholic priest has been indicted on 267 counts of sexual contact with children in the town of Salzgitter where he ran a parish, according to BNO News. The priest, who was unnamed, is accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting three boys between the ages of 5 and 9 since 2004.

GREENEVILLE, TN–Courts across the Tri-Cities region are hearing more cases involving alleged child abuse and neglect.  That increase is causing more judges to request the help of court appointed special advocates and those volunteers are spread thin. In 2008, cCasa of Northeast Tennessee helped 242 families.  That increased to 306 in 2010, and because of a recent expansion into circuit courts, Casa expects to be a voice for nearly 400 children this year.

TEMECULA, CA — A multi-agency task force arrested a former police officer Tuesday after about two dozen pornographic images of children were allegedly found on his computer. The Internet is blowing up with a video allegedly posted by the daughter of an Arkansas County judge that she says shows him beating her. Someone who says she is the daughter of Judge William Adams posted the 2004 video only recently. The hard-to-take clip shows a man whipping her with a belt because she was downloading music from the net.
