New information has come to light on a four year old New Iberia girl who died last week.  We have now confirmed that the toddler suffered severe burns to both legs. Two people Vanessa Edmond and Jamal Charles are arrested in the case.  The affidavit states that the burns were on both legs from the front of the child’s knees all the way down to her feet.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla.– A 22-year-old woman who pleaded guilty to shaking her baby to death for crying while she was playing a game on Facebook is going to prison for a long time. Alexandra V. Tobias was sentenced to 50 years in prison Tuesday afternoon — the maximum penalty on the second-degree murder charge.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – A judge has sentenced Walter Earl Taylor for the 1983 rape of a then 3-year-old girl.  The victim, who is now 31, told Judge Karen Miller, “I don’t trust nobody.” She also said, “Justice has been served. He is caught and now I can move on.” Taylor, who is 41, faced up to life in prison. He was about 14 at the time of the crime.

(CBS)  A mother in Alaska has sparked outrage for allegedly punishing her son with hot sauce and cold showers. Now, she’s the one facing punishment: charges of child abuse.  CBS News Correspondent Betty Nguyen reported on “The Early Show” Thursday a disturbing home video started it all.  Jessica Beagley, a 36-year-old mother of six, is seen disciplining her adopted son by making him hold hot sauce in his mouth. The reason for the severe punishment? He’d lied.

An investigation has been launched after confidential police tapes of a girl telling officers about alleged child abuse were found at a bus station.

The Daily Record said that the tapes were delivered to reporters by someone who claimed to have discovered them at Buchanan Bus Station in Glasgow. Newspaper staff then handed them to Strathclyde Police, and an urgent inquiry has been launched into the incident.

WINNIPEG — A battle is brewing between Winnipeg taxi drivers and those who regulate the industry. Starting April 1, child abuse registry checks will be mandatory for all cabbies to make sure they’ve never been convicted of an offence against children. The measure will be in addition to the criminal background checks already in place. Some taxi drivers are upset they will have to undergo more criminal background checks. Unicity Taxi manager Gurmail Mangat said the criminal checks done every four years should be enough.

DELAWARE–More than 900 doctors, law enforcement officers and social services employees were in Dover Tuesday night, for the Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting Summit at the Sheraton Dover Hotel. “The most important aspect of this is just to provide guidelines to identify, and report, for the medical providers as well as these other professionals, but also we need to share consistent messages to the community about what mandatory reporting of child abuse is and to try to educate the public on the signs of child abuse and neglect,” said Department of Services for Children Secretary Vivian Rapposelli.

After Allen Giron was charged with felony criminal sexual assault Jan. 13 for allegedly having sexual encounters with a 13-year-old girl who then contracted herpes, a judge reduced his bond from $100,000 to $50,000 yesterday at the Skokie branch of Cook County Criminal Court.

TAMPA – A Tampa man was arrested Tuesday night after he allegedly threw a 16-month-old boy, causing him to hit his head on a wall or dresser. 23-year-old Dwayne Poole, whose relationship to the boy hasn’t been disclosed, was punishing him for playing near an electrical wall socket, Tampa Police spokesperson Andrea Davis said in a statement.Poole also admitted to police that he hit the baby with an open hand and a belt, which caused bruising on the boy’s buttocks and legs.

Lincoln County, NC — Michael Brett Postell, 23, of Cherryville, was arrested and charged with taking indecent liberties with a minor and first-degree-sexual assault of a minor. The offenses are alleged to have occurred over a two-year period involving a 12-year-old boy. Brett is in the Lincoln County Jail with a $170,000 secured bond, which means he won’t be out too soon.

NEW CASTLE, PA — A 79-year-old man has been accused of raping a 7-year-old. Frank Williams has been charged with 5 counts of sexual abuse of a child in the first degree and one count of continuous sexual abuse of a child. He is being held on $300,000 cash bail. Police were first alerted by the girl’s parents who brought the child to the hospital.
