TAMPA, Fla. — Police say two people are accused of using a stun gun to discipline a 13-year-old boy. According to Tampa Police, 22-year-old Christopher Roosevelt Lewis says he bought the stun gun last week. Police arrested Lewis and 19-year-old Deonjhane “Amy” Menifield on child abuse charges.

A Yukon man and woman are accused of beating, choking, whipping and burning their adopted children and feeding them pet food, court records show.  John Edward Kluth, 50, and Sonja Kay Kluth, 57, were charged Tuesday in Canadian County District Court with three counts each of child abuse and three counts each of child neglect. They were booked into the Canadian County jail and released on bail, a jail spokesman said. It is not clear if they have retained or been assigned an attorney.

Jeremy McIntosh, 28, of the 200 block of East Midland Street was arrested after he admitted during questioning that he struck the child several times because she would not obey him and continued to cry wanting her mother and father, said police chief Danny Whiteley in a prepared release.

SCRANTON – A federal jury Friday found former Luzerne County Court Judge Mark A. Ciavarella Jr. guilty of racketeering in one of the nation’s worst judicial scandals, a crime in which prosecutors said the former judge used children “as pawns to enrich himself.”

Carroll County, GA —A registered sex offender has been arrested for molesting seven boys, ages 10 to 15. Two more victims have since stepped forward. Dennis Eugene Colley, 41, is no stranger to being arrested for sexual assault. His crimes of choice began in 1992. He previously served four years in prison for three counts of first degree sexual abuse after being convicted.

DELTA, Colo — A western Colorado man accused of molesting a boy 873 times was scheduled to make his first court appearance on Wednesday. Jeffrey Bigham, 47, was arrested last week on suspicion of sexual assault of a child by a person in a position of trust, Jamie Head, spokeswoman for the Delta, Colorado police department, told Reuters.

SAN DIEGO– A karate instructor accused of carrying on a sexual relationship with one of his teenage students pleaded guilty Wednesday to 29 felony charges, including committing lewd acts on a child. Eric Dylan Protas, who had been free on $800,000, was ordered into custody without bail by El Cajon Judge Peter Deddeh.

LONG BEACH– A former state mental hospital director found guilty of molesting his foster son for at least 10 years has been sentenced to 248 years in prison. Long Beach Superior Court Judge James B. Pierce sentenced 63-year-old Claude Foulk on Wednesday. He was convicted earlier this month 31 of 35 counts of sex crimes in Superior Court in Long Beach.

One common form of sexual abuse of children is incest, which has been defined as sexual contact that occurs between family members. Most incest occurs between older male relatives and younger female children in families of every class and color. Other instances of sexual abuse of children are most often committed by friends who have access to children within the family setting and by people normally trusted by parents: doctors,dentists, teachers, and baby-sitters.

Spartanburg, S.C. — According to the most recent statistics reported by The Children’s Defense Fund (2011), in South Carolina a child is abused or neglected every 41 minutes, a child dies before his or her first birthday every 16 hours, and a child or teen is killed by gunfire every 6 days. Child maltreatment not only includes physical and sexual abuse but also emotional abuse and failure to meet the basic needs of the child.

INDIANAPOLIS –  A 45-year-old woman was arrested Tuesday following an investigation into alleged child abuse that a family member says left the baby with cigarette burns on her feet. 24-Hour News 8 has learned the 6-month-old baby is in Riley Hospital for Children. Family members say the infant suffered a fractured skull and a fractured leg.

OLATHE, Kan. — A judge ruled Tuesday that there was enough evidence to try a DeSoto, Kan., woman on three charges that she starved her 6-year-old son.Attorneys for Rachel Perez said she was willing to plead guilty to charges of child abuse and child endangerment, but she would not plead guilty to a third charge of attempted murder. The judge indicated a willingness to accept the offer, but said Perez would have to give up rights that she wasn’t willing to cede.
