The third annual “It Happens to Boys” conference, a two-day program designed to raise awareness of child sexual abuse, kicks off today at the Doral Desert Princess Resort hotel in Cathedral City.The program is presented by Creative Change Conferences, a nonprofit organization led by Carol Teitelbaum, a Rancho Mirage-based Marriage & Family Therapist, who also serves on Riverside County’s Prevent Child Abuse council.

OCONEE COUNTY, SC –24-year-old Matthew Hinton was sentenced to 41 years in prison Thursday, convicted of killing his infant daughter. 5-month-old Brianna Bright suffered from bruises, broken bones, and bleeding on her brain before she died in August of 2009. A jury found her father, Matthew Hinton, guilty of homicide by child abuse.

Bail was set today for two men accused of sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl while she was attending a sleepover party for one of the suspects’ younger sister. Steven Johnson, 19, of the 17800 block of Chicago Avenue in Lansing, and Daniel Rucker, 20, of Calumet City, are both charged with predatory criminal sexual assault, a Class X felony.

FLUSHING — The NYPD is investigating whether a mother helped her son, who suffers from cerebral palsy, kill himself. The woman called 9-1-1 for help, saying she had an argument and her son was hurt. When police arrived, he was already dead. Beverly, a home health aide who declined to give her last name, works across the hall from apartment 3-C in the Latimer Houses on 137th Street where Rene Vera was stabbed to-death.

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orange County sheriff’s detectives said a mother and her boyfriend had pizza and watched a movie after beating a little boy for an hour because he wet his pants. Robin Greinke, 26, and her boyfriend, Steven Neil, 33, were arrested Thursday after the medical examiner determined Greinke’s 3-year-old son died of blunt-force trauma and not a medical issue as initially believed.

Rensselaer, NY —- An ex-con was arrested for possession of child pornography after a month long investigation by The FBI and local police. Jason T. Burnash, 30, was found to have more than 20,000 images of child porn on his personal laptop. He has no permanent residence and was picked up at a friend’s house.

BURLINGTON, Colo. — A 12-year-old boy suspected of killing his parents and seriously wounding his younger siblings may be charged as an adult for first degree murder. Bob Watson, the district attorney in the 13th Judicial District, says he plans to file formal charges in the case by Friday night, and then take some time to decide whether to charge the boy as a juvenile or try to charge him as an adult.

LOMITA — Homicide investigators are looking into the death of toddler who died while he was in the care of his mother’s boyfriend Thursday, police said. Police arrested 25-year-old Daniel Vega around 11:20 p.m. Thursday in West Covina. He was wanted for a parole violation and is being held without bail.

DELRAY BEACH, Fl. — Police are interviewing a suspect linked to the deaths of two children whose bodies were stuffed in luggage and found bobbing in a canal Wednesday. Detectives questioned Clem Beauchamp Thursday and stormed a house at his listed address, police said at a news conference. A distraught Beauchamp walked into the police department around 10 a.m. to talk to police. He waited in lobby, sitting with his head in his hands, rocking back and forth. Minutes later he followed detectives into another room.

HESPERIA — Authorities searching for a missing girl believed to have run off with someone she met on the internet now say the teenager is safe. 13-year-old Jessie Bender, a student at Cedar Middle School in Hesperia, was last seen in the early hours morning of Feb. 22. Melissa said that Jessie had been late night chatting with a man she met on the internet.
