Man Accussed Of Burning 3-MO With Hair Dryer

STILLWATER, Okla. — A 20-year-old Stillwater man has been charged with felony child abuse for allegedly burning his 3-month-old son with a hair dryer. Maurice Wilson was arrested Wednesday and charged Thursday in Payne County District Court. He’s being held in the Payne County Jail on $100,000 bond. Court records do not list an attorney for him.

Child Psychiatrist Accussed Of Trying To Abduct Children

COLLIER COUNTY: A woman grabbed two children while they were playing with their mother at a Collier County beach Wednesday, and claimed the kids were hers, according to a sheriff’s office report. The mother and her three children were playing in the Gulf at Clam Pass Beach while the children’s father was on shore, not far away.

A Vernal foster mother has been charged with witness tampering and failing to report child abuse after police say her son raped a 16-year-old girl living in the home. Nola K. Fortine, 66, found her son in bed with the teen girl on the morning of Jan. 2 but did not report the incident and later coached the girl about what to say if she were questioned, the Uintah Basin Standard reports.

Fans Pick the EatSmart Charity of the Month for April 2011

EatSmart recently hosted a contest via Facebook to let their fans pick the Charity of the Month for April. Using Random.org, DreamCatchers For Abused Children was selected. EatSmart Products is focused on making a difference in 2011 by donating all proceeds generated from the Amazon Associates referral program to a different charity each month. For each transaction made on the site, 7% of the purchase price is donated directly to charities in need, both locally and nationally. March was run the same way, the winner being the Leukemia and Lymphoma Socierty. February’s proceeds are going to the American Heart Association and January 2011 was sent to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

Students learn about Shaken Baby Syndrome

COPPERAS COVE — Crossroads High School students received a lecture Tuesday from a Fort Hood presentation educator and a fellow student about child abuse prevention. “I think it went very well. … They were very engaged,” said Sharon Jones, a presentation educator working with the Army Community Services Family Advocacy program who conducted the interactive lecture for the students.  Jones spoke to the students mostly about Shaken Baby Syndrome.

Suspected of 20 child sex abuse crimes, man goes free

Provo • A 38-year-old man who has been convicted of raping a teenager in Washington and still faces 20 new child sex abuse counts in Utah County was released from custody Thursday. State Fourth District Judge James Taylor said he has no legal basis to hold Lonnie Hyrum Johnson. The judge had previously found Johnson was incompetent to stand trial, with no likelihood of restoration, based on doctors’ reports.

Mother Ran Over Daughter Following Argument

Surprise, Arizona – Sylvia Aranda, a 37-year-old Arizona woman was jailed Friday after she allegedly ran over her 17-year-old daughter following an argument. According to Surprise police, officers were dispatched after a witness called 911 to report that a woman had just struck her daughter with a car.

LAKEWOOD, CO — Police are defending their use of pepper spray on an 8-year-old boy who was throwing a tantrum at school. Police were called to the school after teachers say Aidan Elliot had been spitting and cursing at them.
He was also allegedly trying to stab them with a piece of wood trim he had broken off the wall, according to local TV station KUSA-TV.

PARAMUS, N.J.—A school administrator and a teacher at Paramus Catholic High School are being charged with having sex with female students during a class trip to Europe, officials announced Wednesday. According to Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli, the staffers identified as 27-year-old Michael Sumulikoski and 31-year-old Artur Sopel were arrested and charged following a month long investigation which uncovered the inappropriate sexual conduct involving four female students.

Author of So-called 'How-to' Book for Pedophiles Gets Plea Deal

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — The man extradited to Florida for writing, publishing and selling a controversial book considered a “how-to” for pedophiles pleaded no contest to criminal charges in exchange for two years’ probation, authorities said Thursday. Phillip Greaves was arrested in his home state of Colorado in December and extradited to Polk County, Florida. Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said at the time his detectives were able to establish jurisdiction in the case by conducting an undercover operation, buying a copy of the book “The Pedophile’s Guide to Love and Pleasure: A Child-Lover’s Code of Conduct,” through the mail.

AZUSA– A man who volunteered at a high school in Azusa has been arrested for allegedly having sex with a 16-year-old student, police said. 23-year-old Eric Doung faces felony sex charges, according to Azusa police. Doung is scheduled to be arraigned at the Pomona courthouse on Thursday.

Brazilian School Massacre

(CNN) — Thursday’s massacre of 11 students at a Brazilian school could have been even worse, were it not for the heroic actions of a military policeman, according to a statement from the Rio de Janeiro state governor’s office. Third Sgt. Marcio Alexandre Alves, 38, and a colleague raced to the Municipal School Tasso da Silveira in Realengo after they were approached by a student two blocks away from the school, who asked them for help, the governor’s office said.

Officer Arrested For Child Abuse

(MEMPHIS, TN) — Memphis Police Officer Mutima Winters is due in court Monday to face a charge of Aggravated Child Abuse. Officer Winters, who is assigned to the Old Allen Station, has been relieved of duty pending the outcome of the investigation. She’s been on the force since December, 2008. She is currently out on bond.
