Muskogee man accused of unspeakable child abuse

Posted by Sandra On July - 10 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

About 20 members of Bikers Against Child Abuse were at the preliminary hearing of Dennis Miller, 45, bound over on seven felonies Friday. BACA goes to child abuse cases to support victims.

A juvenile testified Friday that Miller, of Muskogee, threatened to snap her neck and put a specific type of bullet into her head if she did not comply with his order. She said he also chased her and her sister down an alley shortly after he was called to the police station for questioning in various child abuse or sex crimes. It caused the children in the case to have to hide and call for police protection.

Abuse reports often mishandled

Posted by Sandra On July - 10 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

Using the situation that led to the recent firing of Hooker Principal Andrew Cimmino as one example, the offices of the state attorney general and child advocate issued a report Thursday suggesting child abuse allegations are often mishandled by school employees.

The report, the result of a two-year investigation, also cites cases in Westport, New Haven and Southington. It recommends a series of changes to the Connecticut General Statutes that would make the state Department of Education, local school districts and the Department of Children and Families work more closely to ensure teachers know their responsibilities as mandatory reporters of suspected abuse and require school officials to check the abuse and neglect registry before a teacher is hired.

Twenty-one women who say their reports of rape or sexual abuse were dismissed by Baltimore police have reached out to a hot line established this week to ensure that officials are handling complaints properly.

More than half of them asked authorities to reopen their criminal case and pursue possible leads. All their reports will be forwarded to auditors seeking to find out why Baltimore police lead the nation in the percentage of possible sex crimes that detectives conclude are false or baseless.

INDIANAPOLIS – After they had finished playing at the park near their apartment building Wednesday evening, 10-year-old twin sisters headed home. As they took a common shortcut through one of the buildings hallways, they were approached by a man who asked if they wanted to go to L.A. and offered them money. When the pair declined the man’s offerings, they say he picked them both up and tried to drag them inside a storage closet. The man gave up after one of the girls kicked him in the nuts and the other bit him in the face.

MI couple convicted for murdering their 3-yr old daughter

Posted by Sandra On July - 9 - 2010 ADD COMMENTS

If it takes an entire village to raise a child, it also takes an entire village to prevent child abuse.

That is a lesson we might take from the brief and tragic life of Prhaze Galvan, a 3-year-old Kimball Township child who died Jan. 15 after months of cruel and systematic abuse.

A St. Clair County, MI jury needed only 2 hours Wednesday to convict the child’s father and stepmother of torture, first-degree child abuse and felony murder.
