MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — State Police say a Berkeley County man allegedly forced his two malnourished children to live in a concrete basement.
Jesse Arlo Lafferty was being held on $140,000 bond Wednesday at the Eastern Regional Jail. The 32-year-old was arraigned Monday on charges of child abuse, child neglect and conspiracy.

Tacoma, WA – Tyler Savage, 18, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder Monday night after leading police to the body of 16-year-old Kimmie Daley – a developmentally disabled teen who functioned at the level of a 9-year-old. Daley was reported missing on August 17 after she failed to show up at a friends house two blocks away from her own.

Monroe, WA – Ivan Belardo, 37, was babysitting for his ex-girlfriend’s twin boys early Monday morning when one of the tots reportedly hit him square in the baby-maker with an aluminum bicycle tire pump, supposedly drawing blood. And according to Belardo, the child, just 22-months-old, “looked as if he meant to do it.” At that point, the 6-foot tall, 195-pound Belardo said he “just lost control.”

EDINBURGH, Scotland — Scottish police on Friday charged the American mother of three children who were found dead in an Edinburgh town house with their murder. Theresa Riggi, 46, was arrested late Friday after police completed autopsies on her children: 8-year-old twins Augustino and Gianluca and their 5-year-old sister Cecilia.

A bill that seeks to increase prison sentences and extend parole terms in California for certain sex crimes against minors was passed in a unanimous vote by the state Senate on Tuesday.
“Chelsea’s Law” — named after 17-year-old Chelsea King, who was raped and murdered by a convicted sex offender this year — will go to the State Assembly next week for a vote. If it passes, it will go to the desk of Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has already lent support to the legislation formally know as AB 1844.

Recently, a Chicago newspaper printed an editorial titled, “Sex-offender limits sometimes go too far,” that amazingly sought sympathy not for the thousands of children who fall victim to sex crimes each year in Illinois, but rather for a convicted child pornographer.
The assertion was that this man, “Scott,” deserves to be pitied because his life is more difficult thanks to his placement on the Sex Offender Registry. What nonsense. I find this argument both misleading and insensitive to the true victims of these heinous crimes.

A Framingham man was sentenced Tuesday to 15 years to life in prison for indecently assaulting a 10-year-old girl, according to the Middlesex District Attorney’s office.
Carlos Davila, 31, was found guilty on Friday a charge of indecent assault and battery on a child under the age of 14 and because he had a prior sexual offense, faced a mandatory sentence under Jessica’s Law, which lays out minimums sentences for people who commit sex crimes against children.

THIBODAUX — A 46-year-old Thibodaux man is accused of raping an 11-year-old male family member at least four times, authorities said.
Gregory Harris, 471 Frederick Drive, was arrested Saturday after the alleged victim’s mother filed a complaint with the Terrebonne Sheriff’s Office, alleging her child had been raped in that parish. From that complaint, allegations emerged that Harris raped the same boy inside the Thibodaux city limits, police said Monday.

Two 19-year-old men have been accused of raping two girls they met in a church youth group, Woodstock police said. Police say there could be more victims.
While police were at an apartment complex investigating a burglary, two 14-year-old girls revealed to investigators that they had been sexually assaulted, Woodstock police spokeswoman Brittany Duncan said.

A New Jersey teenager has been indicted on charged claiming he tried to rape an 8-year-old girl at Camp Spofford last month.
The indictment, released Monday in Cheshire County Superior Court, lists four charges against the 19-year-old: kidnapping, criminal threatening, attempted aggravated felonious sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
