Walmart Survelliance video shows Jeff Easley and missing girl, Brittany Mae Smith, in Salem

In a news conference Tuesday afternoon Roanoke County police said Brittany Mae Smith and Jeff Easley were seen in Walmart in Salem Friday night. Police have surveillance video of the pair shopping at the store between 8:00pm and 8:30pm. Authorities say 32-year-old Jeff Easley used Tina Smith’s credit card to purchase items in Walmart.  Salem Police have issued warrants for Easley for credit card fraud and credit card larceny. Tina Smith, Brittany’s mother, was found murdered in her home Monday.  Police also believe Jeff Easley is using Smith’s car, a silver 2005 Dodge Neon.

Jeff Easley’s mother, Sallie Martin, made a plea directly to her son to contact her or police.  She urged Jeff to take Brittany to a safe place and return her or call 911.  She told her son that she loved him and that they would work this out.

MOUNT CLEMENS, MI – It is an incredibly disturbing case of child abuse. A 13-month-old girl is near death, and a doctor is accused of raping her. 31-year-old David Montaldi is accused of sexually assaulting and abusing his girlfriend’s 13-month-old child, who is now in extremely critical condition.

“If you look at the condition of this child, absolutely incredible how a person can even think of doing something like that to a child,” said Macomb County Sheriff Mark Hackel. Montaldi was a doctor in training, a former resident at Mount Clemens Regional Medical Center up until a few weeks ago, although it is not clear why he was let go.

The mayor of Pitcairn Island, the British territory in the South Pacific convulsed by a child sexual abuse scandal in recent years, has been charged with multiple counts of possessing child pornography. Michael Warren, 46, was arrested by a New Zealand police officer posted to the island, an isolated chunk of rock populated largely by descendants of the Bounty mutineers. More than 1,000 pornographic images and videos featuring children were allegedly found on his computers. At high-profile trials held on the island and in New Zealand in 2004-06, nine Pitcairners were convicted of raping and sexually assaulting girls as young as seven. A British police investigation had uncovered abuse dating back to the 1950s, with 30 locals named as offenders.

Children who are abused or neglected show impairments in cognitive development in adolescence, a large, population-based study found. When tested for literacy skills at age 14, children who had been reported to authorities for either abuse or neglect had a mean difference of ?4.4 points out of 100 (standard deviation 15, 95% CI ?6.3 to ?2.5) compared with children who had not been maltreated, according to Ryan Mills, MPH, of the University of Queensland in Australia, and colleagues. In addition, on testing for abstract reasoning ability, abused or neglected children had a mean difference of ?4.8 points (95% CI ?6.7 to ?2.9), the researchers reported online in Pediatrics.

It is amazing what advancing technology allows computer gurus to accomplish and how easy computers make communicating with one another. Social Networking has spread like a wildfire and everyone who is anyone is part of the Facebook phenomenon. Facebook is responsible for putting in contact lost friends, family and co-workers around the world. Since first launching in 2004, Facebook has reached the half way mark to reaching 1 billion active users and is expected to do so in the next year or so.

Facebook is not only used for socializing, it is also used by millions of businesses to reach a large viewing audience at once. Advertisers are sometimes more successful advertising on Facebook, than they are on television. Even aiding organizations are looking to spread awareness using social networking and are quite successful at it. This week, Facebook users will be changing their profile picture to represent a favorite cartoon character they remember as a child. Richmond, Indiana – Angela J. Boyd, a 38-year-old Richmond woman has now been formally charged after she allegedly faked the death of her 15-year-old daughter last month. According to the Richmond Police Department, Boyd arranged to have a funeral for her daughter, who she stated had been brutally raped and murdered by her father in Iowa. The service was scheduled for November 9th, at New Life Ministries Church of the Nazarene. The church gathered a collection plate two days before the funeral, and brought an additional collection jar to the service, all for the memory of Boyd’s daughter.

Albuquerque, New Mexico – Six adults were arrested, and 17 children were placed in protective custody, after police discovered them all living together in a filthy casa, with no food, very little clothing, and only four mattresses. Let’s just think about that for a moment. 23 people, 4 mattresses and few articles of clothing. According to New Mexico authorities, 17 children were placed in protective custody back in October when deputies dropped by the family’s casa and discovered the children living in a home that was filthy and smelled strongly of urine and feces. Investigators say the children belong to five siblings and one cousin who share the same residence.

Las Cruces, New Mexico – David M. Lanning, a 27-year-old Las Cruces man was jailed Thursday after he allegedly raised his family in a virtual litter box. According to Las Cruces police, a home littered from wall to wall with pet feces and urine was discovered by a New Mexico social worker who then notified police. Investigators say when police entered the home, they found the entire floor covered with urine and feces resulting from 17 cats and 4 dogs who lived with the family. The odor from the filth was so strong, it reportedly caused breathing disorders for the whole family. Authorities deemed the home a health hazard.

Springfield, MO — Busted back in ’93 for sodomizing a 14-year-old boy, sex offender James Bays is back behind bars – this time he’s accused of sodomizing his girlfriend’s two young sons. According to police, Bays initiated contact with the boys’ mother on the internet earlier this year and by October, the two were involved in a romantic relationship. Whether he informed the woman of his offender status is debatable…police believe he did, she says he didn’t. Anyway, after about two months of dating, the woman’s 10-year-old son came forward and told her Bays had touched him inappropriately.

MOBILE, Ala. — Police in Mobile, Alabama, have arrested a 27-year-old father and accused him of abusing his two young children, who authorities now believe are dead. John Joseph DeBlase faces two counts of aggravated child abuse and two counts of abuse of a corpse, according to a statement from Mobile Police Department Friday. “Based on what he’s told us, we believe” the children are dead, Mobile Police Chief Micheal T. Williams told reporters on Friday.
