MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — A 50-year-old man accused of sexually abusing an 11-year-old Berkeley County girl pleaded guilty under Alford circumstances to two felony counts of child abuse resulting in injury and is scheduled to be sentenced July 29, according to court records.

Under an Alford plea, a defendant does not admit guilt, but acknowledges that there is enough evidence to gain a conviction.

Many Catholics are furious that former Bishop Thomas Dupre never served jail time for child abuse. Now there’s a push to change the laws to further protect children.

Former Springfield Diocese Bishop Thomas Dupre is currently living in a retirement home for priests in the Washington area, but clergy abuse survivors wish he were in jail.

JACKSON COUNTY, Miss. — A man and his girlfriend were arrested late Monday night after Jackson County Sheriff’s investigators determined that he slammed her baby on the floor and caused the 18-month-old numerous injuries, Sheriff Mike Byrd said.

“He beat this baby until she was black and blue,” Byrd said.

Dereck Damiel Griffs, 29, was charged with felony child abuse, Byrd said.

COLUMBIA, Md. — Howard County police say a high school ROTC instructor has been charged with sex offenses after he allegedly had sex with a 17-year-old student at the school.

Fifty-one-year-old Charles Ray Moore of Bowie was arrested Monday and charged with sexual child abuse and sexual abuse of a minor by a person in a position of authority. He has been released on bond. Moore is an instructor at Atholton High School in Columbia.

ROME — A 73-year-old Italian priest has been arrested in Milan for allegedly abusing a foreign teenager over three years, ANSA news agency has reported.

Domenico Pezzini, from the diocese of Lodi, was arrested on Monday over allegations that he sexually abused the alleged victim from the age of 13 to 16.

The alleged victim, who is now an adult, could have been helped financially by the priest.

Jesse James claims that sex addiction and anger management were both addressed during his recent stay at Arizona’s Sierra Tucson Treatment Center, however they are not the main reasons why he admitted himself.

Amman – A Jordanian carpenter was charged Monday with raping his teenage daughter and then killing her during a botched Caesarean section to terminate a child he had fathered with her, the Jordan Times reported.

“The suspect brought a carpet cutter, cut his daughter’s stomach with it, opened her womb and took the female foetus and threw it in the garbage,” police sources told the paper.

He then sewed up his daughter’s stomach with thread, but could not stop her bleeding. She eventually died.

Two boys aged 10 and 11 were found guilty today of the attempted rape of an eight-year-old girl, but a jury at the Old Bailey found the pair not guilty on charges of rape.

The jury found the children guilty by a majority of 10 to two on two charges each, making them among the youngest defendants ever to be convicted of the crime of rape by a British court. As the verdicts were read out the younger boy sought eye-contact with his mother but both mothers stared straight ahead.

As part of closing statements in a recent Multnomah County civil trial, attorneys showed jurors a confidential form that banned a volunteer from Scouting. The handwriting says Timur Dykes was kicked out for “sexual molesting of young boys.”

The Boy Scouts‘ effort to protect their young members from sexual abuse had large gaps from the start and has significantly fallen behind modern practices. Videos intended to alert youth about potential abuse don’t warn that Scout leaders could be molesters, despite an 80-year record of just such scenarios.

Few of the 1.2 million adults volunteering in Scouts have been required to take training that the Boy Scouts offer.

Richland County is set to be part of the second stage of a pilot program as Ohio implements a family-oriented approach to investigating child abuse and neglect allegations.

The approach, called alternative response, is focused on finding the underlying causes of child abuse or neglect. The state received positive results from 10 pilot counties, including Licking County. The traditional response is more focused on investigating specific allegations, said Sue Wasiniak, intake supervisor for Licking County Children Services.
