Pope begs for forgiveness

Pope Benedict XVI has begged for forgiveness over child abuse by the clergy and pledged action to prevent further cases. His comments came at a service to mark the end of a year-long celebration of the priesthood.
At a service in Rome’s St. Peter’s Square on Friday, Pope Benedict XVI begged forgiveness from the victims of child abuse by members of the clergy and vowed that he would “do everything possible” to protect young people.

Pregnant 13-yr old performs at-home abortion; 30-yr old boyfriend buries body

KUNKLETOWN, Pa. — A 30-year old man has been charged with raping a 13-year-old neighbor who got pregnant and burying the body after the girl performed a home abortion.
Michael James Lisk was arrested after the girl was treated at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest for complications from the abortion.

Chief recommends firing officer who beat 15-yr old teen
Indianapolis –UPDATE: Following an internal investigation into excessive force allegations against a 15 year-old boy, Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Chief Paul Ciesielski said he has recommended that an officer be terminated for his role in the beating of Brandon Johnson.
“This morning I met with officer Piland and terminated his employment with IMPD,” says Chief Paul Ciesielski at a news conference.

Real Life Hero: Father Rescues Daughter From Abductor’s Home
Akron,OH- On Monday, a 9-year old girl was walking with friends when a stranger, 36-year old Torrince D. Garner, offered the girl five dollars if she would pretend to be his daughter and follow him to the basement of his home. Two of the girl’s cousins saw what happened and alerted her father, Demetrius Skipper, who immediately ran to Garner’s home. “I snatched the door open, I asked him, he said she wasn’t in there, but the look on his face let me know. So I grabbed him and started choking him, yelled my daughter’s name,” Demetrius Skipper said. “And when I yelled her name, she came from where he had her at, she ran out the door.”

Police Investigate 9-yr old Child’s Abduction and Rape

HOCKESSIN, Del.- New Castle County police are investigating a late night abduction and rape of a 9-year-old girl who accepted a ride from a stranger after she was inadvertently locked out of her home.
The investigation revealed that around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, a family friend drove the victim to her home on the 500 block of Homestead Road in Alban Park home. After the friend drove away, the victim initially entered her building but was unable to get into her home as the door was locked. Police learned she then walked back outside to search for her sister and her parents.

Murfreesboro sex offender, on probation, rapes child
A 39-year-old Murfreesboro man currently on probation for the molestation of an 8-year-old girl was indicted and charged with rape of a child and incest Tuesday.
Ronald R. Coggins, of 135 Fairfax Drive, was charged following an investigation by Murfreesboro Police Detective Tommy Roberts.

John Hornedo found guilty of rape & assault
TAUNTON, Mass., (WPRI) – A jury has found a Taunton man guilty of rape and assault of a child.
John Hornedo, 33, has been sentenced to serve 12 years in prison. He will have to serve all 12 years.

Man Who Fathered Four Children with his Daughter Sentenced for Murder, Incest

HARRISONVILLE, Mo. (CBS/AP) A Missouri man who was convicted in April of molesting his daughter for years, fathering four children by her and causing the death of one of those children, was sentenced to life in prison plus 22 years Tuesday.
Danial Rinehart shrugged and shook his head when asked by the judge if he had anything to say to his victim or his family before being sentenced, then stood stone faced as she read her decision on his fate.

Sexual predators use any means necessary
Predators who commit sex crimes against children use parents’ trust of their children to their advantage.“It’s easy,” said Ted Motley, chief investigator for the Covington County Sheriff’s office. “All it takes is a cell phone, a computer, a little spare time and the want-to.”
Since January, his department has received an average of three reports of child sex abuse per week. It’s Motley’s responsibility to investigate child sex crimes.

The spanking debate
How many times have you seen a child screaming their lungs out in a department store, sometimes because their parent wouldn’t buy the latest toy touted on TV? How many times have you seen a young teenager – out in public – being openly defiant and disrespectful to a parent or another adult relative?
For many people, particularly 40-somethings and older, an instant remedy comes to mind: “All that child needs is a good butt-whipping” —
Other times, we’ve seen parents take a belligerent rugrat into a department store restroom or fitting room and re-emerge with a well-mannered little darling.

DELAWARE: Earl Bradley case spurs legislation
DOVER — A seven-bill package addressing shortcomings uncovered in the investigation of Dr. Earl B. Bradley, the Lewes pediatrician accused of sexually abusing 103 patients, was unveiled Wednesday.
The proposals, drafted by the governor’s and attorney general’s offices, include measures that would increase the power of the Board of Medical Practice, strengthen penalties against abusers, mandate adult supervision while a child under 15 is being treated and provide additional training for law enforcement, doctors and prosecutors.

Australian abuse cases double
CHILD abuse and neglect cases in Aboriginal communities uncovered as part of the radical Northern Territory intervention have more than doubled, from 106 in 2007 to 247 last year.
The new figures, released by Indigenous Affairs Minister Jenny Macklin, also show that the 18 communities which have benefited from additional police account for 84 per cent of the increase in the number of child abuse and neglect reports made to police between 2007 and last year.
